Kingmaker: For Love of the Crown
Pathfinder 2e | Campaign
About the adventure
A wild land of adventure, secrets buried deep in forgotten ruins, a scattered people in desperate need of leadership... All these things await in Kingmaker, one of the most celebrated campaigns that puts all of the Pathfinder storytelling system to task in an unforgettable adventure. Beginning with Level 1, rise in esteem and power in your bid to forge a kingdom from the chaos. Once you and your friends have tested yourselves against the wilds, you will begin building a kingdom from the various lands you've explored and the settlements you've aided along the way. But be warned, not everything is as it seems in Kingmaker, and the threats that come from ruling a growing kingdom may prove far more deadly than any goblin or demon. You will need to rely on a network of trusted allies, keep tabs on rivals at your borders, and marshal your forces in defense of your lands. This is no easy task, and the road ahead is long. Spanning over 1 Year of weekly play time, this campaign will give you the chance to fully immerse yourself in an adventure that utilizes all of the core features that make Pathfinder great, without the metagaming drama that *sometimes* happens in fantasy RPGs... Are you ready to build the character you've always wanted to play? Are you ready for an interactive story, where your big and small choices will alter the land forever? Are you ready to build your kingdom from the ground up, stone by stone, encounter by encounter? Well... what are you waiting for? Your kingdom awaits.
Game style
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Rules as Written (RaW)
Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.
This is a long, year+ campaign! So here's what you can expect: - FREE SESSION 0!!! Where we will build the Party through group character creation, decide what character links exist, and establish ground rules & safety tools! - An emphasis on the Party & game as community, with safe opportunity to explore roleplay and the Pathfinder system. - Roleplay-heavy without disregarding the rules. - Rules as Written and Intended *does* allow for a lot of flexibility and creativity, and I will showcase it. - NO Free Archetype. It's not a race, folks, and RAW makes your choices matter even more. - Foundry VTT integration!

How to prepare
You need a device that can run Foundry as a Client: https://foundryvtt.com/article/requirements/ A decent microphone and the Discord app are also required. Players should be familiar with the rules relating to their characters, though during play any 'light uncertainty' will be adjudicated by the Storyteller for the sake of the story, and any major questions can be resolved swiftly on a case basis. The spirit of fairness and intent of rules will rule supreme in edge cases.
What I provide
I will provide a Foundry Virtual Tabletop (VTT) server to play this game on. No purchase or download required on your part, simply follow the link I provide. The VTT is a tool of our campaign, and is NOT the game itself. While I strive for excellence in hosting RPG sessions, the shared story between us will be the emphasis, and not necessarily confined to the VTT itself. We will use discord for voice and video chat. I will be on video and sometimes provide voice acting for characters and effects. Players are only expect to have a decent microphone and video is optional. I strive to run the game as RAW, but I also believe that the spirit of the rules have an innate flexibility to them.
Gameplay details
Expect this game to stick to the core books of the Revised 2 Edition "white label" books, adhering to the rules and spirit of the Player Core, Player Core 2, GM Core, Monster Core, and NPC Core. For those utilizing Archives of Nethys for their game mechanics, we will not be using any Legacy content. Additional content outside of the Sources listed above *requires permission* to use. Anything with the Uncommon and the Rare traits also *requires permission* to use. We will not be using 'Free Archetype' rules variant; we will focus on getting more out of our characters through roleplay, their decisions, and their limits. Safety Tools: Session 0 will include House Rules (mechanics, lore, and/or table etiquette), Character Creation, Party Creation, and discussions about content warnings, desired in/out-of character goals, and other such matters. The general content in this game should match the expectations of a mainstream fantasy fiction in classic & contemporary literature, cinema, and streaming content. Epic, high fantasy is the central genre of this game, without heavy focus on either the grim or the silly sides of the genre. A survey will be put out to establish desired content and your personal Lines & Veils. At any time you may alter your own limits on Lines and Veils, but at all times those currently established will be respected. When in doubt, utilize the X, N, O cards freely. X/N/O Cards will be used in the VTT. In most cases, no further clarification will be necessary regarding the subject matter. When clarification is desired, I will ask the petitioner to message me in private or designate a player advocate to speak with me instead. I tend to incorporate one 10-15 minute break roughly halfway into the session for personal use and I have an open table policy where Players may take whatever breaks they need for their own comfort. Please communicate these breaks wherever you can in the chat, per table etiquette, but this is not a break prerequisite.

How will character creation work
We will begin the character creation process as a group during our initial, FREE SESSION 0. I know everyone is excited to get started! But, I think that meeting everyone at Session 0, hearing what some of the expectations and desires are from the others in the game, and collaborating on character 'synergy', collective backstory elements, and shared ideas will make your character even better. It also means that, come Session 01, I have spent over a week thinking about your character and customizing this campaign to better improve the storytelling experience. Feel free to use Pathbuilder as a character creation app, though I do expect Players to read the book text with regard to their character options. We will NOT be using the Free Archetype at Level 2 optional rules. Nothing against power-gamers, but I think that the FA variant encourages too much un-fun metagaming. Expect this game to stick to the core books of the Revised 2 Edition "white label" books, adhering to the rules and spirit of the Player Core, Player Core 2, GM Core, Monster Core, and NPC Core. No Legacy content. Please review the Uncommon and Rare traits where applicable.
