Report Adventure

About the adventure

Struck down by a devastating superweapon unlike anything Golarion has ever known, the heroes rise in the shadowy limbo between life and death. To save the world, they must claw their way back to the land of the living and warn Lastwall of a threat long thought buried—the Whispering Tyrant walks again. In Tyrant’s Grasp, tragedy is inevitable. Your goal isn’t always to prevent catastrophe—it’s to endure it, grow through it, and prove that even in the darkest hour, true heroes rise. Hi, I’m Phil (aka JCServant), a veteran GM with decades of experience running narrative-driven campaigns from AD&D to Pathfinder 2e. Join a team of passionate roleplayers in a gripping, atmospheric adventure where death is just the beginning. We play in a friendly, supportive Discord community built on collaboration and storytelling.

About me

Welcome, adventurer! Thanks for stopping by my table. Let me share a bit about who I am as a DM, so you can decide if my games are the right fit for you. I got my start in the late '80s, running AD&D for friends and playing classic Gold Box games on the Commodore 64. Back then, we improvised a lot—sometimes using calculators instead of dice! Even when life pulled me away for a while (hello, college), I stayed connected through D&D video games like Dark Sun, Baldur’s Gate, and Eye of the Beholder. When I came back to tabletop, I dove headfirst into Pathfinder 1e, running 2–3 games a week in local stores and at home. I eventually became my state’s Pathfinder Society coordinator, organizing weekly games and large-scale events. From there, I ran several long-running home campaigns and later switched to D&D 5e for a few years. These days, my players and I have returned to deeper waters—Pathfinder 2e. By day, I’m an accountant (rules and numbers come naturally). By passion, I’m a writer and artist (so creativity is always on the menu). My GM style is fast-paced, story-first, and team-oriented. I value clear rules as a foundation, but character arcs and party dynamics are what truly bring a game to life. I’ll check in often to make sure you’re having fun—and I welcome feedback. Expect a challenge. I run tough but fair games where teamwork matters and victory is earned. Some options are restricted to keep things balanced and ensure everyone has a chance to shine. Want more specifics? Check out the individual game pages. Thanks for reading—I hope we’ll roll initiative together soon!

Character creation

Creating your character

Joining mid-campaign? No problem. New characters will be leveled to match the party, provided starting gold, and given appropriate gear and magic items. I’m frequently available via Discord (JCServant) to help answer questions and walk you through character creation. We’ll meet in Foundry to finalize your character and get you ready to roll with the group—no tech stress, just adventure.

The current party

Party is level 8 and currently has a champion, Barbarian, Inventor, Rogue and NPC Cleric.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will connect using Foundry VTT, and can check the demo available on their website to ensure compatibility. All dice rolling and character sheets will be provided via the software. For voice chat, we will use Discord. Please ensure you have a quality microphone, and will be in an environment free of background noise for the enjoyment of all. It is recommended that all players read over my gameplay guidelines at https://tinyurl.com/5x7nu93m , and have a basic knowledge of Pathfinder 2e rules.

What Phil brings to the table

I will provide the Foundry VTT software with all the needed setup. From journals to music to tokens and character sheets, we'll keep track of it all there. Once the game is ready to go, I will provide a URL and password that players will use to connect.

Homebrew rules

This game uses a refined PF2e system with custom house rules designed for balance, fast-paced combat, and rich storytelling. Expect gently rebalanced classes (like Champions and Clerics), custom feats and spell options, faster healing mechanics, and meaningful consequences for death and resurrection. We use milestone leveling and emphasize teamwork, tactics, and character-driven roleplay. Combat is streamlined: one-minute planning, turn timers, and no take-backs once dice are rolled. Spellcasters get exciting upgrades like 3-action spell options and greater spell variety, particularly at higher levels. How Phil creates a safe table

Salutations. I appreciate your interest! Salutations! I'm Phil aka JCServant, a DM with decades of experience in other systems, and over two years of Pathfinder 2e. Welcome to our Tyrant's Grasp campaign! This is a dark, gritty fantasy where being a hero means standing strong even when defeat and loss are inevitable. Death and loss are constant themes. Characters for this setting will need to reflect the somber tone involved. This campaign starts at level 5. We use gradual ability boosts and free archetypes (excluding class dedications) to allow a more excellent range of character expression! Combat in my games will challenge players to build solid combatants and work together to take down monstrous enemies. As far as sessions, we have a 20-minute break towards the middle of the game (based on the group). I'm very open to feedback from players, using it to help make future adventures better. I am happy to answer questions and ensure the game fits all who want to play. I'm generally available via Discord - username: JCServant and the Startplaying messaging system to answer questions. For more information, please check out "Phil's Tabletop Guidelines" doc at https://tinyurl.com/5x7nu93m . It will give you more details on how I run the table. This is highly recommended for anyone wishing to join the campaign. A detailed house rule document going over optional feats, tweaks to combat/classes, etc, is available upon request. I look forward to adventuring with you!
