Tether | The Lure of the Lost [PbP Duet]

About the adventure

“Some stories don’t fade—they echo.” Tether is a two-player journaling role-playing game where we become connected through a haunted object: a mysterious journal that defies time itself. We’ll each take on the role of a character living in the same isolated rural town—but separated by decades. Through the journal, known as The Tether, our characters can communicate across time, unraveling the dark history that binds them together. In this duet play-by-post game, we’ll take turns writing journal entries prompted by rolls on a 10-sided die. There are 16 narrative prompts in total, and we’ll use them to guide our evolving story. Some prompts may inspire a single entry; others might spiral into a thread of multiple exchanges as tension mounts. While a pace of one entry per day is encouraged, we’ll move at a rhythm that works for both of us—slow and simmering or fast and frantic. This will be a collaborative tale of suspense, horror, and perhaps even hope—set in a town where an ancient, unknowable force lingers just out of sight. Our characters will uncover chilling clues, cryptic symbols, and personal tragedies that reveal the truth behind the town’s curse. Some have written in The Tether before us… but not all of them survived to finish their story. As investigators tethered by time and trauma, we’ll ask: Can we break the cycle? Or will we become just another chapter in a journal that refuses to end?
