Terror on the Menagerie Coast | Wildemount Setting | 2024 Rules
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Horrors lurk in the Lucidian Ocean. Sailing is becoming increasingly dangerous for vessels who travel at night. Something in the dark is causing ships to disappear, and the Marquis of the Coast have responded by offering a small fortune to anyone who can provide answers, and even more to any who can put a stop to whatever is happening. Will you stand out among the many who've answered the call? This campaign uses Critical Role: Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, but does not factor the events of any Critical Role campaigns as canon to this campaign's lore. Though the tone of this world is dark fantasy, the story will be tailored to your characters and how they grow in response to the world.
Game style
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

I feel so lucky to be a player in one of Kahlil's games. He's a master of his craft and actively makes sure everyone is getting what they want out of the experience. He's well versed in all the rules and guides everyone with so much patience as we sometimes fumble with the Fight Club app trying to give stat or spell details. I get a kick out of the unique voices he gives his NPCs and I'm always impressed with the distinct life he breathes into all of them. He can paint a vivid picture with his words but also frequently gives helpful reference images that I appreciate. Highly recommend 10/10.
Overall, the most valuable quality Kahlil has as a DM is the effectiveness with which the players' preferences, interests, and goals are incorporated into the world, events, and overall style of the game. Personally, the phenomenal quality of his story-telling has become the primary reason I continue to look forward to games with Kahlil.
Kahlil is an incredible world building DM whose goal is to tell the best collaborative story possible. I have played at his table for 5 years and have had many laughs, many character breakthroughs, and interesting & healthy challenges. Playing with him will engage your creativity and bring the soul out of your character!
I'm so lucky to have had Kahlil as my very first DM ever, he was my introduction to DND and, knowing a little bit more about DND now than I did when I started, I'm glad that my first intro was with someone that has such a great grasp of storytelling! I never felt dumb as someone who knew absolutely nothing about DND mechanics, the stories were always so exciting and captivating, the world building was immersive and the NPCs were all so fun! And speaking of which, I think he is hilarious, I was cracking up half the time I was at his table. He has a wonderful grasp of balancing comedy and sincerity, and it makes his games so fun and poignant! And on top of that, he's great at rolling with the punches when you come up with stupid ideas for your characters, like telling him you want to play a skeleton man with invisible flesh, like I did, or in-game when your character, instead of doing anything plot related, is determined to spend all his money on mangoes or something silly like that, he'll improv with the best of them. Anyway, I highly recommend playing DND with Kahlil. He's ruined me for all other DMs!
Kahlil is a wonderful DM! I can't recommend him enough! He's inclusive to all and knows his stuff! He's creative and can really immerse players by setting the right mood through the vibe/music/sounds. I always look forward to a session with him as they're always super interesting and allow me to learn the ropes and express myself creatively.

How to prepare
Once you sign up for the session, I'll add you onto the group Discord and help set you up. But here is a list of the things you'll need for everything to run smoothly: A computer (laptop or desktop) a microphone (most laptops have them built-in, but you may want to double check) a pair of headphones and/or a quiet room a fairly strong internet connection The Discord app on your phone or computer (to communicate with me and other in your party) The Fight Club 5 app on your phone or tablet (to manage your character sheet. This isn't necessary, per say. If you have other means of managing your characters that you're familiar with, you're welcome to stick with them. My compendium just includes a lot of third party and homebrew content that you'd have to ask for access to in a different format.) What I provide
I am bringing my library compendium on the app Fight Club 5 that you will have access to, a story customized and written around your party, and battle maps I will craft in Foundry VTT based on your choices. I don't have an incredibly vast internal library of voices and accent, but do my best to give each NPC distinct personalities and voices that I hope are memorable. I welcome my players to experiment with voices themselves, but there's no pressure to; you're more encouraged to roleplay in a way that allows you to have the most fun.
Gameplay details
I have very solid boundaries against topics of slavery and sexual assault. They will not be featured in any games at my table. X, N & O's can be raised anywhere you feel comfortable; direct to camera, private message or group chat; I will respond quickly and as smoothly as I can. This campaign features homebrew crafting guides, nautical warfare, and bastions fairly heavily. Any other homebrews you have in mind can be discussed as a group for how and if we'd all like to implement them.

How will character creation work
In session zero (which is free) we will create your character using either the point-buy system or a communal group roll for stats. Your backstories can be informed by the Session Zero System by Mythic Grove, where we can discuss where they came from, someone who had a monumental impact on their lives, and the events that set them on their paths where we meet them. We'll figure out how the party knows each other and advance from level 1 to level 2 through that story. Our first paid session begins after your session zero.
