Dungeons & Dragons 5e, The Lord of the Rings™ Roleplaying 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

- Defend the Lone-Lands of Eriador against the darkness encroaching from all sides - Visit legendary sites like Rivendell, Isengard, the Gray Havens, and the Shire and explore the forbidding wilds - Write your own story in Middle-Earth! The One Ring patiently bides its time at Bag-End as a shadow begins to spread over the Lone-Lands of Eriador. Orcs and trolls grow more brazen, wicked men invade from the south, restless spirits awaken in the old barrows, and an ancient evil stirs in the haunted lands of the Witch-King. "The Lord of the Rings 5E: Shadow of the Witch King" is an open-ended, sandbox style campaign set in Tolkien's Middle-Earth after The Hobbit but before The Lord of the Rings. You play as adventurers-turned-heroes whose mission is to protect the free people of Eriador from orcish hordes, Black Numenorean invaders, vengeful undead, monsters from the ancient world, and of course the Enemy himself. The Lord of the Rings 5E is easy to learn for anyone familiar with D&D 5E. Changes have been made to the system to keep magic rare and mysterious, just like in Tolkien's world.

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Additional details

How to prepare

You will need a microphone, but you don't need a webcam. You will need an account on Discord for voice chat. You are advised to look over the Cultures and Callings listed in the Lord of the Rings Roleplaying core book, which you will have access to via my D&D Beyond account.

What I provide

I will bring access to the Lord of the Rings Roleplaying on D&D Beyond, as well as a custom-built system on Foundry to allow ease of play and an immersive experience. I also bring years of experience running 5E. I have run nearly 800 game sessions in the last three years alone!

Gameplay details

During Session Zero, we will discuss Lines and Veils. Players are welcome to to add their own Lines and Veils as well. We will also use an X-card feature of the software in case any player needs to stop play if they feel uncomfortable. Also, we will use the Stars and Wishes system to provide real-time feedback after each session.

How will character creation work

The character creation process will begin on Discord before the first live session so that I can properly build out your character in Foundry VTT. Once we begin play, we can iron out any final changes. All Cultures (ancestries) and Callings (classes) are available, including those described in sources beyond the core book: Beornings, High Elves, Wood Elves, and Woodmen.
