DnD in Runeterra (League of Legends)
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
This campaign will take place in the vast universe of Runeterra (League of Legends). The aim here is to use the world of Runeterra as the foundational settings, but tell a wholly unique narrative. As far as the game itself, I will always have a Session 0 to get everyone's characters set and comfortable in the world (more on that in the Details). I also will always go over any topics and/or themes my players do not want to include in their campaign. Most importantly, my campaigns are primarily focused on story and roleplay. Rarely will I have "throw away combat," where the party will kill 10-20 goblins just to kill them. Instead, combat will always have a purpose in driving the story forward, and combat against mini-bosses and big bad bosses will be favored. To that point, there will be sessions where there is no combat, and that is completely fine; I encourage my players to investigate all angles they wish, gather as much lore as they wish, and talk to all the NPCs they wish.
Game style
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Combat Heavy
“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Shane is great at his storytelling! If you enjoy a rich world then look no further. His ability to pivot when someone in the party throws a curve ball is also amazing! I experienced my first ever TTRPG character death with Shane, in my 10+ years of playing, and feel they were given a proper send off too which was very very important to me. There was no rush and just saying "your characters dead, alt up!". Instead my character was given an actual story into their passing, and became part of the lore. Can't ask for much more than the proper gravitas being given to someone you played for so long. Just to be completely forward don't expect a handout/pushover campaign with Shane unless that was specifically asked for. He builds encounters that make you choose and CAN have consequences. He is not out for a TPK but does make you work to progress. I like this style personally as it makes me a better player in the end and I have to try different things. Write notes, ask questions and he will bend over backwards to make you a better player. 10/10, would recommend.
I really appreciated how Shane was able to ease new players into the vast and immersive world of D&D. Before our session, he had been vigilant and checked to see how I was feeling. He ensured that I had all the necessary information to prepare for our session. He provided me with online resources, and he always had an open door for my questions. Being new to the D&D system, Shane generously reminded me of abilities, items, mechanics, and opportunities that were available to my advantage. In the session itself, I found his NPCs to be the most engaging element. Their unique and memorable personalities made them feel tangible. I could practically feel their bodies in my mind's eye. Despite the variety of characters, Shane maintained a firm grasp on each one of their core motivations. In doing so, the characters responded dynamically and appropriately to all player decisions. At the same time, there was depth in the way that the NPCs could go "off-script" depending on their emotions/reactions to the player's choices. Their dynamic nature was further enhanced by Shane's immersive voice acting. Each one had a unique accent, tone, and cadence to their voice, yet Shane voiced them with impeccable precision. Without mention of names or visuals, you always knew exactly who was speaking.
I’ve been in a campaign with Shane as our Dungeon Master for almost a year now. Soon to start my second (at the same time.) I can say that his style is exactly what he says he offers: story-telling and role-playing focused with a large emphasis on our decisions as players. With this, he in an extremely fluid thinker. My party has not been able to catch him off-guard, but you can try. On top of that, the mini-boss and boss fights feel like they hold very large ramifications on the direction the plot goes and also have dynamic and thought-provoking combat mechanics. I would highly recommend Shane to anyone looking for fun and interesting combat and compelling narrative paths for both their characters and the overall story of the campaign. Oh yea, and he is also very noob-friendly. I would know ‒ his campaign was my first DnD experience :).
Additional details
How to prepare
All players should have a webcam and mic. All players should have DnDBeyond account (can sign up for free). All players should have a Discord account. While experience with League of Legends (either through Arcane, games, or books) is preferred, it is not required. Send me a message on Discord (my username is Bazbirttwo) and be sure to introduce yourself and let me know you discovered me through StartPlaying! And lastly, all players should think about what faction they want to play as if they were making a character in a League of Legends MMO.
What I provide
I primarily utilize DnDBeyond for character creation and theater of the mind for most things. Sometimes I utilize battle maps (via Above VTT) if there are too many characters to keep track of during a fight.
Gameplay details
Players can expect a strong emphasis on storytelling and roleplaying. I always host a free Session 0 for my groups to get everything ready to jump in. That means we'll be going over my general playstyle and everyone's character creations. I want all my players to feel like their characters have existed and will continue to exist in this world, and I want to take the time to craft a wonderful backstory with each and every player (should they desire it). I also will always go over what topics and themes players don't want to see in my campaigns so I can take care to avoid them.

How will character creation work
For character creation, I usually go for standard array, though I always give my players the option to roll for their stats if they want (though everyone in the group will have to agree on rolling for stats to do it). I will work with each and every player to craft a character that makes sense both narratively and mechanically. That said, an important thing to note in this setting: although all classes are generally open to play, races are a tad limited to what exists in the universe of Runeterra. As such, I will be offering each player some homebrew things that help them embrace the faction fantasy of the specific League of Legends faction (Noxian, Freljordian, etc.) they are going for.
