Hunter The Reckoning: No Rope Can Bind

Hunter The Reckoning: No Rope Can Bind

Hunter: The Reckoning | Campaign

About the adventure

Blood stains the roots of Melrose, Scotland. A missing hunter. A trail of bodies. Whispers of something old, something hungry. Follow the signs, descend into the dark—but beware, no rope can bind what awaits... This would be a mini-series for anyone new to Hunter The Reckoning.

Game style

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Gameplay details

1. Player Comfort & Safety Tools Are there any topics or themes that you are uncomfortable with? Are there any phobias or real-life experiences you'd rather not see in the game? Do you have experience with horror RPGs? If not, what kind of horror are you comfortable with? (Psychological, supernatural, body horror, gore, etc.) Should we use safety tools like the X-Card, Lines and Veils, or a check-in system? How do you prefer to handle discomfort in a scene? (Pause, fade-to-black, adjust content, etc.) 2. Themes & Tone of the Game This game will feature dark themes, psychological horror, body horror, and supernatural terror. Are you comfortable exploring these themes? What kind of horror do you enjoy? Slow-burn mystery? Gory action? Psychological dread? Are you okay with playing as ordinary humans facing supernatural threats with limited power? How do you feel about moral dilemmas? (e.g., sacrificing one life to save many, revenge vs. justice) The game will involve investigation, paranoia, and mystery—do you enjoy solving puzzles and uncovering hidden truths? 3. Character Creation & Party Dynamics What kind of character do you want to play? (Ex-cop, journalist, conspiracy theorist, monster hunter, etc.) Do you prefer a group that starts out knowing each other, or should we establish how they meet? How will the party handle conflict? Are we okay with character arguments, or should we avoid intra-party fighting? What level of character backstory integration do you want? (Should I tie your character into the mystery?) What are your character’s personal motivations for hunting the supernatural? 4. Game Mechanics & House Rules Are you familiar with Hunter: The Reckoning mechanics? Do you want a rules refresher? Would you like to focus on roleplay, combat, or investigation? (Balance of gameplay elements) How do you feel about player death? Should it be rare and dramatic or frequent and brutal? Should we allow open secrets (where players know things their characters don’t), or keep mystery elements hidden? How much player agency do you want in shaping the story? (Do you want me to integrate your theories and ideas?) 5. Logistics & Expectations How long should each session be? What’s our expected commitment for attendance? (How often can we reschedule if needed?) Are we okay with splitting sessions for investigation-heavy parts or dream sequences? Do we want to use music or ambiance for immersion? Should we have debriefs after intense sessions to check in on player comfort?

How will character creation work

Character creation can take place before the game and I can assist with this aspect. Character Creation When? Character creation will take place before the first session to allow for a smooth start. A brief review will happen during Session Zero. Stats & Level? Characters will be built using Hunter: The Reckoning (5th Edition) rules, starting at base level with standard point distribution for Attributes, Skills, and Edges. Where? Players will create their hunters using pre-approved digital sheet. Books & Restrictions? The core Hunter: The Reckoning (5e) rulebook is required. No supernatural characters (no vampires, werewolves, or mages). Custom backgrounds must be discussed with the Storyteller.
