Avoliof - Road Wardens
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
The year is 9 AG (After The Great Wizard War) and the lands of Repoluv are in turmoil, although the war itself mainly affected the pangea of Aurolian the discovery of harnessing magic has left effects all over the world. People keep within their city walls and after Repoluv was formed just forty years back their armies spread thin, and finding skilled people to protect the roads and the common folk has grown thin. You are Road Wardens. Hired, ambitious, forced or other, your job and duty is to keep the roads safe. This is no easy task, and most Wardens don't make it past their first year. The pay however, for those who make it, is so lucrative some say the new king themselves hands them the pouch of coin. ------- This campaign is set in Avoliof, a homebrew world I've been working on for over four years now. Here you can explore the three regions of the Aurolian Pangea, the Garof continents and nations, and The Oin archipelago. This is an open world campaign, with no real limitations of where you can go, if you want to go west and keep heading west you can, until you reach the ocean, still want to head west? Get a boat, find a way to travel underwater, or maybe even cross it through the skies. You choose the goals, and I create interesting locations, people, and most importantly stories for you to explore, as well as taking your character's backstory into account. Did someone kidnap your sister? Find and save her. Have a debt too large to pay off? Steal a mystical gem worth as much as a village. Want to forge an army? Find the right people, build a network and maybe you can form your own militia. There really aren’t any limits to what you can do, and I will work with you to find what stories we can explore, what hero, or villain, you can become.
Game style
Rules as Written (RaW)
Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Dungeon Crawl
A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!
Combat Heavy
“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

I'd have to say my favorite thing about her is the fact she is not a....Tyrant? I think that's the right word. Like obviously DM always has final ruling, but she is always willing to admit she ain't perfect and can't remember everything, so is always willing to listen if someone thinks a mistake has been made and never takes it as an insult or something. Also she does encourage outside the box thinking and really gives the players freedom, like I've never felt we we're ever railroaded into having to do something a certain way. Plus she is a big believer in the rule of cool, so all in all, top tier DM ^_^
Etherdawn is great at including players in the story and giving them epic moments that really help define their character arc. Furthermore, she is great about letting players be creative with solutions to problems inside and outside of combat. For instance, certain items are used in a specific way that, if it makes sense, can lower the difficulty of combat and reward the player. Finally, she is great at making interesting characters that go against the norm. Thus, I believe the type of players who want to be creative and try new things while playing in a story with fun and unique characters will find her a great DM with no other equal. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing in her campaign for the past five years (2020-2025). So join up today, and let Etherdawn take you on an incredible journey.
Before joining Etherdawn's campaign back in 2022, I have never had any own experience with DnD, or any other kind of TTRPG. I was a total newbie, just haven shown some faint interest in trying DnD out, she invited me to play in her (still active) campaign that has already been going on for almost a year. She helped me with every step on the way to becoming more knowledgeable about DnD: how to make a character, getting familiar with mechanics, rules, becoming more comfortable with Roleplaying and even encouraging some (looking back) stupid ideas to make some hilarious moments possible :P I have been a part of numerous campaigns and different kinds of TTRPG groups. Every experience has been really fun and worth. But out of all these experiences over the last ~4 years being part of the TTRPG Community, almost all of my favourites have been as Etherdawn as my DM. Goofing around with a funny NPC, discussing mechanics and rules about the game, roleplaying gutwrenchingly deep moments in a character's story - are all moments any kind of player could wish for in a good DM. But Etherdawn is even more than good. She's great, with even more intricate Characters, Dungeons and Stories, all even going on in the "background" of the campaign to give the World an even greater aspect of being alive. Her Worlds are not there for the Player Characters. It's a world of it's own, that inhabits the Player Characters and affected by them, which makes the World she has created so much more enjoyable and realistic. I can only recommend seeking Etherdawn out to have them DM for you, even if it might only be a Oneshot, there will be so many amazing and memorable moments!
Fun GM that allows for lots of creativity, sets up hard but fair combat encounters that are very memorable (and make you use all the tools in your arsenal) and generally handles a large world with lots of NPCs really well. Allows for a decent amount of rule of cool, generally supports lots of RP moments (though obviously expects players to play into it), generally smites cringe stuff
Ether is an amazing DM/GM. She makes an incredible world allowing for player freedom and creativity with their character, incorporating their lore into the her wonderful worlds exploring the future and past of it. For all the time I've been in her campagin there as never been a session I'm not looking forward to, she is always putting in effort to make everyone have fun giving everyone and amazing experience and adventure.
Additional details
How to prepare
You don't need anything more than a decent mic and a decently stable internet connection, if you have a character idea in mind then that's amazing, but absolutely not a necessity. Everything else will be provided to you come session 0. From character sheets, virtual dice, maps, and so on.
What I provide
We will be using Roll20 Pro Version for this campaign since I'm more used to it however we might switch to FoundryVTT in the future. I also bring my own maps and maps made by other professionals. I'll bright all my books and the content they contain.
Gameplay details
Session 0 will highlight all the rules and regulations we will go over during the game, the game isn't focused on trying to terrorize you, but the warnings are simply there since they might come up during play. The game will only touch on things within the world, and this campaign has no focus on real life drama or politics. You will always be able to reach me on discord and you can always write or talk to me one on one if something is bothering you.

How will character creation work
You will start at level 1 to make things easy and then after one or two sessions you will level up to level 2. You will make your characters within the Roll20 by using the core book and learning to edit it everything else yourself. I will of course teach you how Roll20 works, how modular it is, how to create items, and even make abilities and spells! This allows us to if we want in the future, make completely custom and homebrew items for you! I will explain more about the world and setting at session 0 as well as any help you might need with character creation, but generally speaking all DnD classes and even more well known homebrew classes are on the table, as well as races and such. So if you have an idea in mind of a character you want to play I'm sure we can make it work within Avoliof!
