Blackwater Creek | Gangsters, Bootlegging, & Small-Town Horror
Call of Cthulhu | One-Shot
About the adventure
Three months ago, anthropologist Henry Roads and his wife disappeared amid an expedition to Blackwater Creek. You've been sent to find them. However, bootleggers, ancient rituals, and much worse await you. --- About the Module --- Blackwater Creek is a one-shot for Call of Cthulhu 7e, written by Scott Dorward. In it, the search for a missing professor and his wife dons a darker hue, and subtle mutations spread through the eponymous town. However, the local bootleggers complicate excising this eldritch infestation as they become wary of outsiders. Artwork: Midnight Ride of Paul Revere (1931) by Grant Wood (Public Domain, Wikimedia).
Game style
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Rules as Written (RaW)
Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

I am writing to enthusiastically recommend Golvin as a Dungeon Master for Dungeons & Dragons. I have had the pleasure of playing in a 5-week-long campaign, and I can attest to his exceptional skills and dedication to creating an enjoyable and engaging gaming experience. Golvin possesses a deep and comprehensive understanding of the D&D ruleset. His knowledge allows for smooth gameplay, clear rulings, and a consistent, immersive experience. He is patient and always willing to explain rules or concepts to new players, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and included. This patience is particularly valuable for those less familiar with the game like myself, making him an ideal DM for introducing new players to the world of D&D. What truly sets Golvin apart is his ability to craft compelling narratives and dynamic worlds. He is a master of improvisation, seamlessly weaving player choices into the ongoing story, creating a sense of agency and investment. His descriptions are vivid, his NPC interactions are engaging, and his encounters are challenging and rewarding. Beyond his technical prowess, Golvin fosters a positive and inclusive atmosphere at the table. He prioritizes fun and ensures that every player has an opportunity to shine. He is adept at balancing combat, roleplaying, and exploration, catering to a diverse range of player preferences. Golvin consistently demonstrates the qualities of an exceptional Dungeon Master: knowledge, patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for the game. Any group would be fortunate to have him guiding their adventures. I wholeheartedly recommend Golvin to anyone seeking a memorable and enjoyable D&D experience
My first time here on StartPlaying, and I had a super fun time playing and learning CoC with Franc! He’s very knowledgeable and helpful, everything is organized and ready before the game, including rules and pregens, making it so easy for me to play. I love that he is very accommodating and patient to teach me everything about CoC. The session was very immersive and fun, and I definitely would love to participate in more games with him in the future. Thank you so much Franc!

As part of onboarding for the game, I send players my Line & Veils and ask for theirs in return. Which are then confirmed at the beginning of the session as part of a mini-session 0. During the game, if anything disturbs you, please tell me, leave an "X" in the chat, or privately message me. I will then remove the offending or skip past it. Likewise, if you feel the adventure is going in an unsavory direction but use an "N" instead. I will also check in if I notice anything is off.
