Tales from Wilderland | A Middle-earth Campaign (5e)
The Lord of the Rings™ Roleplaying 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Tales from Wilderland invites you to journey through the untamed lands of Middle-earth, where the shadows of Mirkwood conceal ancient secrets and lurking dangers. Set shortly after the events of The Hobbit, players take on the roles of brave adventurers drawn together by fate. The campaign begins in Esgaroth, on the shores of Long Lake. What starts as a series of minor incidents quickly unravels into a web of intrigue stretching across Wilderland. From foothills of Erebor to the depths of Mirkwood, the party will encounter Wood-elves, Dwarves, and other denizens of Middle-earth—each with their own motives. As they explore forgotten ruins and confront lurking evils, the adventurers must navigate moral dilemmas, forge alliances, and face the growing shadow threatening the region. Their choices will shape not only their own destinies, but the future of Wilderland itself. Perfect for fans of Tolkien’s world, this atmospheric campaign blends exploration, roleplaying, and danger into a rich, story-driven experience.
Game Master Reviews (5)
Bo does a great job of playing to the character strengths and well as making sure there are plenty of challenges along the way. Bo worked with me to make sure I got what I wanted out of our games. He does a wonderful job roleplaying NPCs and I think he'd be a great GM for first time or long time players.
Within my previous games hosted by Bo Peterson, I found the story to be clear, the adventure to be inviting. Characters of all types of interaction (recurring NPCs, one of random encounters) all had appropriate layers of flavor and development attached to them. But not only does he make the world more alive he also keeps player (characters) in mind and makes it an effort to show that he is invested in your characters. I enjoy Bo Peterson as a GM because he thinks, he knows how to make moments impactful. As an example of this, my favorite moment in a game with him was during a Star Wars setting campaign. My character was having trouble controlling his emotions and as a force sensitive caused him to demonstrate more sith/dark patterns. The party had come across a unknown object, a large stone obelisk. Feeling power from it, my character went up and touched it. This moment could have had several different outcomes but Bo decided to use my character's emotional struggle as an outcome. Using his hate and anger for events of the past my character was flown into an uncontrollable rage. This GM decision offered his player(s) to make a decision that mattered: "What does your character do in this rage?" Long story short I attacked a specific member of my party, blaming him for the past (that he specifically had nothing to do with). But it was that moment Bo offered me an option that would influence the story of the character, the party's, development.

How to prepare
Players will need a mic and free discord account so we can communicate during the game. A camera is optional. They will also need a free Roll 20 account so they can see maps and tokens for the game.
What I provide
I will bring a Roll 20 account for maps and tokens as well as descriptive and cinematic combat and encounters. I love using the rule of cool over rules when it fits the situation. Players can expect an exciting adventure set in the wonderful world of Middle-earth that allows for new and experienced players with collaborative storytelling.
Gameplay details
We will do a session zero that will go over the expectations of the game and see what the players are looking for out of the game and out of me as the Dungeon Master. I have an open door policy where I invite players to message me at anytime about questions or concerns they have with the game. We will use breaks as needed. We will debrief after each session to see how the players are feeling and to talk about things they liked and things they would like to see for next time.
