Legacy of Strahd - The Iconic Villain in Pathfinder 2nd Edition
Pathfinder 2e | Campaign
About the adventure
The Vampire Lord, Strahd, rules his domain of Barovia with an iron fist. So it has been since the dreaded mists closed in around the cursed land. Once in a while, however, a sliver of hope passes through the impenetrable veil that imprisons the people of Barovia - heroes, and a chance that the vampire lord's reign might at last come to an end. Time and again, however, the heroes are defeated, and those Barovians who supported them are punished for their insolence. This time will be different. This time, you are the heroes. Can you evade the dread vampire's attention long enough to gather the allies, the weapons, and the knowledge you will need to defeat him, and to vanquish him and his legacy for good? In addition to using Pathfinder 2nd Edition rules, this campaign will shift the focus to the history and origin of Strahd's curse. While gathering the ancient relics that will help them defeat the sinister overlod, the players will learn more about his family, his upbringing, and the tragic story of betrayal that caused the entire realm to suffer. Why bring Strahd to Pathfinder 2nd Edition? A couple of reasons, not the least of which is my own nostalgia! I run classic D&D adventures for a long time, and "Curse of Strahd" was a reliable favourite, with the perfect sized sand-box to allow the story to develop differently each time according to player choice. Another exciting prospect, however, is that because Pathfinder 2nd Edition remains well balanced into the epic tier and up to level 20, Strahd can be encountered in a form that lives up to his reputation. This is a long-term campaign that will be played weekly at the same time, on Foundry VTT.
Game style
Rules as Written (RaW)
Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
This is a new campaign, starting at level 1, and will be played weekly at the same time on Forge VTT, with Discord used for communication. Familiarity with Pathfinder 2nd Edition or the Ravenloft setting is not required.

How to prepare
A good quality microphone (preferably a headset) is required to use Discord. I also strongly encourage players to use video during games. Games using video conferencing are usually more enjoyable for all parties, as video prevents misunderstandings and miscommunication. In addition you will need (free) accounts for Discord and Forge - the site hosting our Foundry VTT session.
What I provide
All of the materials you will need to play will be provided digitally through Foundry - you do not need to make any other purchases to participate in the game. The rules for Pathfinder 2nd Edition are freely and fully available online to everyone. We will be using the Remastered version of the rules, wherever they and whenever they become available. The game will be hosted permanently through Forge, which means you will be able to access your character to make updates between sessions. (You will need a free Forge account).
Gameplay details
While still heroic fantasy, this campaign is on the darker end of the spectrum of what one can expect from Pathfinder 2nd Edition campaigns, including elements of both gothic horror and cosmic horror. More importantly, the main antagonist's role as a predator - including as a sexual predator - is atypical of D20 fantasy villains, though it will never be directed at player characters. More than in any other of my games, I believe it is important to use tools to make sure everyone is both aware of and comfortable with this type of content. We will be using the Lines & Veils protocol during out first session together (this is a tool that allows us to create our own limits on the content we wish to include in the game), and digital safety tools like the Stop card will be available through the virtual table top. Any language or behavior that makes any other player feel uncomfortable or unwelcome at the table will not be tolerated.

How will character creation work
Play will begin at 1st level. All characters should be created on Foundry VTT, but most players prefer to use an external tool such as Pathbuilder to experiment with when planning their character. Foundry gives you all of the tools require to create and develop your character, and you do not need to purchase any content. Thanks to Forge hosting, you will have access to your character outside game time. All player characters will advance at the same pace, regardless of absences. Players who join late will join at the current party level, with appropriate equipment.
