Arrested in Waterdeep? Win Freedom or Die Trying (Lvl 2)

Arrested in Waterdeep? Win Freedom or Die Trying (Lvl 2)

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot

About the adventure

Each of you has been arrested by the Waterdeep City Watch—some for crimes you committed, others for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. You are brought before Captain Hyustus Staget, a hard-eyed man known for his no-nonsense demeanor. “The Xanathar Guild is up to something big,” Staget says, his voice low and commanding. “We need people who can handle themselves in dangerous situations, people with nothing to lose. Help us take them down, and you’ll walk free, records wiped clean. Refuse, and you’ll rot in a cell—or worse.” The deal is simple: infiltrate the Xanathar Guild, follow the orders of a Harper agent embedded within, and help Waterdeep strike at its most dangerous criminal organization. Succeed, and the city’s gratitude—and a fresh start—awaits you. Fail, and Waterdeep may lose more than just a few goldfish. What’s it going to be? Welcome to Waterdeep: A Tail of Two Fishies, a whimsical and high-stakes heist set in the City of Splendors. This one-shot is perfect for players who love intrigue, daring plans, and a touch of humor. Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or brand new to Dungeons & Dragons, this adventure offers an exciting blend of roleplay, problem-solving, and thrilling action. Expect a game filled with dynamic characters, tense encounters, and plenty of chances to flex your creative muscles. Whether you prefer clever social maneuvering, bold combat strategies, or hilarious antics, there’s a spotlight moment waiting for you. The setting of Waterdeep provides a rich backdrop of bustling streets, shadowy alleyways, and hidden lairs beneath the city. This one-shot is beginner-friendly and designed for players of all experience levels. If you’re ready for a daring mission where the fate of a city (and a goldfish) rests in your hands, then join us for Waterdeep: A Tail of Two Fishies!

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

I've played a couple of one-shots with DM Saucy, and they were fantastic! Their roleplaying skills are top-notch, bringing NPCs to life in a way that really draws you into the world. There were a few minor tech issues (that were not her fault), but overall, the experience was thoroughly enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Joining Saucy’s Dragonworks campaigns has been an incredible introduction to Dungeons & Dragons. From character creation to setting up Roll20, their guidance made my first steps seamless. The mix of role-play and combat keeps every session engaging and creative. Even at midnight, I’m hooked and can’t wait for the next game. Based on her campaigns with Dragonworks, I highly recommend this group for anyone looking to dive into D&D.

Your comfort and enjoyment are my top priority. For this one-shot, we’ll be using digital X, N, and O cards via Roll20 to ensure a safe and inclusive environment: X-Card: If anything in the game makes you uncomfortable, use the X-Card to skip or modify the content without needing to explain why. N-Card: Use the N-Card to signal a scene or topic that’s uncomfortable but manageable, so we can adjust the narrative appropriately. O-Card: Use the O-Card to let me know you’re enjoying the scene and want to continue or explore it further. We’ll also incorporate breaks at regular intervals to give everyone time to recharge and refocus. If you need a break at any time, feel free to let me know. These tools help create a collaborative and respectful space where everyone can fully enjoy the adventure. If you have any questions or specific preferences, feel free to share them before the session starts!

Stats (27 Point Buy): We’ll be using the 27-point buy system for character stats. If you're unfamiliar with this method, I’m happy to help explain and set it up with you. 5. Foundry Character Setup: Characters can be created through DnD Beyond or Foundry (if have it purchased, where I’ll help you create or upload your character sheet. This includes setting up stats, abilities, and equipment to make sure everything is ready for the session. 6.
