Journeyed to Phandelver and all I got was this lousy Obelisk!

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Phandalin. A frontier town full of colorful characters and a place where one can make their name, or their fortune. If they are brave enough. Or foolish enough... For players new and old, this is a back to basics game that can still hold new twists. This table will be a safe place for the players, but hold many threats and challenges for their characters. It will be a place filled with role-play, comedy, action, mystery and horror. This game will be for adults only, and will be inclusive 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ There will be a safety checklist, as well as other safety tools used

Game style

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Additional details

How to prepare

Each player will need a mic, but cameras are not required. I will likely be on one but you don't need to! You will need a D&D Beyond account, but the free one is fine, as I will have all the necessary books available in my campaign. For new players, it can be helpful to go over the free rules booklet available before hand, but I will be more than happy to discuss anything about the rules that you need!

What I provide

I will be using Discord for our sessions along with Encounter+ for our VTT (available through any web browser). This is a very paired down system compared to Foundry or Role 20, but will link with D&D Beyond, which will also be used. I tend to use Rules as Written but encourage and reward outside of the box thinking. I also highly encourage my players to role-play with each other, and love character development and description.

Gameplay details

There will be a session 0, which will focus on how we will employ safety tools, digital tools, table expectations, and character creation. Each session will have some intro time, a 15-20 minute break, and a check in at the end to assign stars and wishes.

How will character creation work

Characters will be made in D&D Beyond using 2024 rules, and can include elements from Tasha's and Xanathar's, possibly others (just reach out). They can be made prior to session 0, or during the session if you are new to the game, as I'd be happy to assist. I'm also happy to chat on Discord, if any questions arise. Everyone will start at 1st level, using the point buy system for ability scores.
