About the adventure

Alex was my first DM ever, and he made the whole process of learning DnD a breeze. We started with a short one-shot, then moved on to a proper campaign or two afterwards. Alex does a great job at explaining the rules and procedures while balancing the competing needs to have player-driven moments with other events like combat. He also does a great job at responding to the decisions of the group in real time while keeping his larger narrative in view. Speaking of, the larger plot and universe-building of his campaigns are always comfortable and familiar yet thought-provoking. He’s an all-around great DM!

Alex is the DM who introduced me to DnD and the tabletop scene as a whole. He does a great job teaching beginners how to play the game, as well as making a rich world with deep characters for vets to roleplay with in impactful scenes. A great example is a barbarian in our group got possessed by touching a cursed gem, so he adlibbed an entire sequence where my bard went in after him and fought a demon inside to break the curse.

How to prepare
Players are required to have * Solid high speed internet * A free D&D Beyond account * A character sheet of their character (which can be made during or before session 0) * Read and have a basic understanding of the combat rules of 2024 5e * Read and have a basic understanding of how their character works in combat * A high quality microphone Players are suggested to have: * A high quality webcam
What I provide
Free 5e content on D&D Beyond means that you get access to the 2024 rules for absolutely free! D&D Beyond has come a long way, and the new layouts and maps are quite useful. Alongside discord plugins, it means that DnDB is the right place to use for my campaign. I have a flexible "yes, and" (and 'no, but') approach, and will look for opportunities to roleplay everything within world, including character motivations, hints to things the players know outside the game inside the world, and ambient music. Combat for me is something I really enjoy, coming from a Warhammer 40k background, though I am happy tailoring to the party's preference. I do embrace the rule of cool, rules are always secondary to the story, and want to ensure that each player gets a chance to shine and show their own prowess!

How will character creation work
Character creation will happen in Session 0 - you are certainly encouraged to bring an idea and plan of how you will complete your character! Stats will be done by standard array, usually starting at level 3 for experienced D&D 5e campaigns, and level 1 for campaigns with newer players.
