Call of Cthulhu | Campaign

About the adventure

What do you see when you look into the Abyss? What do you feel when you touch the sky? What would you say if you could understand the secrets of life? Or discover the secrets beyond? Would you give yourself fully into the eternal fire to achieve them? Would you destroy yourself only to reborn as a greater entity? Would you sacrifice everything you have to have more? Or to become one with everything? This game is for experienced Call of Cthulhu players to discover esoteric part of the game and the Gaslight era with the new resources from Chaosium. If you're kinda new to Cthulhu, but trust yourself to be a part of a roleplay-heavy game, you can message me and we can talk about it before you join.

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Shatargat did a great job of walking us through playing Alice is Missing and as a first time player to any kind of role-playing game made the game easy to play and kept things moving along while also explaining exactly what we were doing.

I joined an Operation/campaign in progress and was welcomed and not made to feel like I was an outsider FNG. I feel like the player's were equally important to moving forward and this is my first DG character and Operation. I was shell-shocked at the in game situation. It was great. Shatargat knows the game and the mythos and Foundry VTT. I'll look forward to next Saturday.

How to prepare

I can give you a couple of recommendation as inspiration: • Eyes Wide Shut (movie, 1999) • Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made (movie, 2018) • Crimson Rivers I & II (movie, 2000, 2004) • Lust For Darkness & Lust From Beyond (video game, +18 CW, 2018, 2021) • Immortality (video game, +18 CW, 2022) • The Last Door, season 1 & 2 (video game, 2014, 2016) You will need to have a PC and stable internet connection to connect the interface. You will need to have a microphone that captures your voice clearly. Webcam is not a need, but might be good to have if the group wants to.

How will character creation work

We will have a session zero, and during the session zero we will discuss the matters like what kind adventure you want to have, game rules in my terms, and character creation. I offer two options: 1. Player characters will be outside of the occult matters but they will try to solve mysteries. 2. Player characters will be people who will have initiation ceremonies and become a member of an esoteric society, start to learn their secrets and will try to overcome dangers according to this new life.
