About the adventure

FROM: [AUTOMATED MESSAGE] TO: Junior Researcher █████████ Welcome to the SCP Foundation, researcher. It has likely been a difficult journey to find yourself where you are today, having to be scouted out by people you've never met before and invited to exams and interviews for a position you were never fully told of. We can imagine you already have a few questions, whether it be where you are, who is here with you, or why you were chosen to be here. Many of these questions we will not be able to answer. Some of those, we will. Operating clandestine and worldwide, the Foundation acts beyond conventional jurisdiction, with the task of containing anomalous objects, entities, and phenomena. We maintain an extensive database of information regarding anomalies requiring Special Containment Procedures, commonly referred to as "SCPs"; all of which undermine the natural laws that the people of the world implicitly trust in. We operate to maintain normalcy, so that the worldwide civilian population can live and go on with their daily lives without fear, mistrust, or doubt in their personal beliefs, and to maintain human independence from extraterrestrial, extradimensional, and other extranormal influence. Our mission is threefold: Secure — secure anomalies to prevent them from falling into the hands of civilian or rival agencies through extensive observation and surveillance, acting to intercept anomalies at the earliest opportunity. Contain — contain anomalies to prevent spread of their influence or effects; by either relocating, concealing, or dismantling them, or by suppressing public dissemination of knowledge thereof. Protect — protects humanity as well as the anomalies themselves until such time that they are either fully understood or new theories of science can be devised based on their properties and behavior. In this game Players can expect to: - Play an investigator and researcher for the SCP Foundation - Investigate anomalous objects, creatures, places, and phenomenon - Deal with various cults, rival organizations, and variants from extrauniversal sources - Send D-Class Personnel into dangerous situations and play them in said situation. - Not pay for Session! - Have some Weird Fantasy goofness

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

How to prepare

All you will need is a mic and a Discord account. You will be using your browser to access the game which will be hosted on Roll20. If you'd like to read the SCP Wiki some before game, feel free! It's always a good way to spend some time.

What I provide

I am a Rule of Cool GM with a lot of experience rolling with the punches. I will be using ambient music and scene specific scores. Expect combat to be tactical but easily accessible. Combat should be a challenge and not an exercise in frustration. You can expect a lot of roleplay as I am a story heavy GM. I am also a big fan of mysteries and investigations.

Gameplay details

In Session 0 we will go over player and GM expectations. Session 0 will be free. Lines and Veils will be a Google doc linked to you. Same for Stars and Wishes. The first before campaign begins. The second after each session. Breaks and X cards will be handled in game or over direct message on Discord if you are uncomfortable doing so publicly.
