The Specter of Clarkesville: Call of Cthulhu Homebrew Scenario

The Specter of Clarkesville: Call of Cthulhu Homebrew Scenario

Call of Cthulhu | One-Shot

About the adventure

You are a student at Miskatonic University. Your group’s car breaks down on the was to an important weekend seminar and now you are all stuck in some forgotten dying community. While waiting for your car to be repaired, the locals tell of the old Clarke mansion and its original owner, Jameson Clarke. They say he hid some treasure gained from his business dealings during the American Revolution. Lately some ghostly sightings have been going on in the abandoned mansion. After one of your friends head up there and doesn’t come back, you set out to look for them. What secrets does this old mansion hold? This scenario is homemade by me and is a favorite of my longtime players. It is heavily inspired by Scooby Doo and is a fun campy mystery. The overall tone will be light and focus on solving the secrets of the old mansion. While it may be on the lighter side, that doesn’t mean there’s a bit of darkness present in Clarkesville.

Game style

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Always prepared for each session with fun and engaging situations. Promotes players to take it upon themselves to relate to their characters and the story. Allowing them to look into the setting to search for clues and details. Their storytelling will make it so players will also feel the impact of their decisions and how different parts of the world will interact with the players. With their extensive background as a player and running RPG's such as DND, Call of Cthulhu, Star Wars RPG and makes any world they cultivate engaging and interesting. Overall great Game Master and would definitely promote a fun role playing environment.

How to prepare

A Discord and Roll 20 account are required. Microphone also required to communicate.

What I provide

This scenario is made by me, so I have all the maps, handouts, and premade characters. I have run this scenario multiple times and know it inside and out. I am not great at voices, but I attempt to give all NPCs one. I stick to the rules but am flexible and open to fun ideas.

Gameplay details

The scenario is not designed to be very disturbing or intense. However, if you are bothered by anything or the game approaches something you are not comfortable with, DM me or voice your concern out loud. I will cut back on or avoid topics that will cause issue. I want everyone to enjoy a campy mystery together!
