Keys from the Golden Vault | One-Shot Heist Adventure LEVEL 1

Keys from the Golden Vault | One-Shot Heist Adventure LEVEL 1

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot

About the adventure

One morning you and any allies you keep hear a knock at your window. A raven, tapping the glass, stands on the ledge looking at you curiously. Tied to their torso is a small pouch containing a key; after removing the pouch the raven shakes their feathers before flying off. From the key comes a gentle but confident voice: "Greetings, operative(s). The Golden Vault has been informed that you just might be the skilled mercenary we need for an assignment. We've been looking to put together a team of talented individuals who can fly under the radar of those watching our organization. Should you accept, you'll be provided with the necessary tools, team, and resources and upon completion, rewarded in coin. Additionally should the heist be flawless, perhaps an invitation to join us more officially. We look forward to working with you. An ally of ours will be in contact soon to provide more details, stay safe." The beauty of a module like Keys from the Golden Vault is that it can be its own stand-alone one-shot, part of it's own campaign, or be placed within your favorite setting and campaign. From stealing precious artifacts, returning what was taken, or restoring balance by removing a curse, the Golden Vault likes to test its members on their teamwork, imagination, and resourcefulness. Whether you're familiar with the setting of Exandria, only familiar with older versions of Dungeons & Dragons, only seen TTRPGs from the many talented shows online, or still struggle to tell different dice apart, it is never too late to learn how to play or experience unfamiliar territory~ So regardless if you're a beginner or a veteran in the ttrpg space, if you enjoy a little mystery and puzzle solving this might be the game for you.

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Dungeon Crawl

A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!

Recruiting notes

Note that Character Sheets will be using 5e 2014/Legacy items. Easy to fix but it will save everyone the confusion.

How to prepare

All you need is a computer with internet, access to Discord, D&D Beyond account, and a microphone. Webcam is 100% completely optional. 💜

What I provide

🎲 Games will be played on owlbear.rodeo a free to use VTT and through Discord (primarily voice but video is an option only if you are comfortable). 📝 D&D Beyond will be used for character sheets as it allows me to see and guide players should any confusion or questions come up during gameplay. 🎶 I enjoy having background music to set the scenes and will provide maps for combat and other encounters (sourced from the official Call of the Netherdeep book as well as my own). 🏳️‍🌈 This is a learning and safe environment: it is an LGBTQA+ safe space, and there will be no tolerance of racism, sexism, homophobia, or otherwise.

Gameplay details

I have a link to a Lines and Veils Form which will be sent once we start discussing character ideas. Depending on timing I will also encourage a Session 0 for individuals or the party to build out their connections IC and OOC and also outline what lines should not be crossed from the L&V questionnaire. Answers will remain anonymous from my end unless you choose to share that with the table. Conversation will always remain open and I encourage my table to message me directly or speak up (if comfortable) in game and if need be, we can re-route gameplay so everyone can continue having fun. Typical sessions run 4 hours with a 15 min break about 2 hours in. I also understand that not everyone can stay after a game ends however the call will remain open for any cool-down conversations, debriefs, or general social time with the table.

How will character creation work

In an ideal world I'd love to have a session 0 with most if not all of the party. However, with time zones and availability I know that's not always possible. More than likely if that idea falls through, I'd ask everyone to come up with the general type of character you want and we can work together to build a character and a party that feels connected to each other and the world.
