A Wander in the Humblewood

A Wander in the Humblewood

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

The woodland realm of Humblewood has long been a land of balance, where the Birdfolk of the Great Tree and the Humblefolk of the forest floor coexist in a delicate harmony. However, trouble stirs in the Wood of late—flames rise in the distance, tensions mount between its people, and dangers creep from the shadows. As uncertainty grows, heroes must rise to protect their homes, uncover hidden threats, and restore balance before all is lost. Will you answer the call and shape the fate of Humblewood?

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Recruiting notes

Character creation will be done in D&D Beyond using point buy, following the D&D 2024 rules. Available classes include those from the Player’s Handbook, Humblewood, Mordenkainen’s Guide to Monsters, and select additional sources. As long as your character reasonably fits the Humblewood setting, creativity is encouraged! I’m happy to collaborate with you to craft a fun and engaging story.

How to prepare

Have decent internet, a working mic, and accounts with Discord, Forge-VTT.com and DndBeyond we'll have a free session zero to discuss campaign expectations and character creation before the campaign starts.

What I provide

I'll be using FoundryVTT and Discord, and won't be using video or recording sessions although you can if you want. I won't have any dedicated ambience to start, but its something I’m looking into. I'm going to try and balance roleplay and combat, and to maintain NPC voices, but it’s not my strong suit; I’m trying to get better, and feedback is always appreciated. Rule of Cool trumps RAW every time.

Gameplay details

This campaign will be a healthy balance of roleplay and combat. Player safety and comfort are top priorities. To create a respectful and inclusive environment, we will use safety tools like X, N, and O cards, allowing players to communicate their comfort levels during gameplay. The X card lets players skip content they find distressing, the N card signals discomfort and suggests a scene shift, and the O card indicates full comfort and enthusiasm. These tools will be available through chat options or verbally in-game. Additionally, we will establish lines and veils during a Sesion Zero discussion to define hard boundaries and fade-to-black topics, ensuring everyone's limits are respected. To manage emotional intensity, we will monitor bleed—the overlap between players' emotions and their characters' experiences. Check-ins will occur after heavy scenes, and each session will conclude with a brief aftercare discussion, offering players a chance to share feedback, decompress, and ensure they leave feeling positive and grounded. An open-door policy will also be in place, allowing players to step away from the game at any time for any reason. These tools ensure a collaborative and safe experience for everyone, keeping the focus on fun and adventure.
