Discover the Hidden Temples of Isoliort | 5e Exploration&Puzzles
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
You have been invited to witness the Matala, a bi-yearly ritual used to teleport the Loxodon of the (Iceland reminiscent) island Isoliort. This year a new Luoda Heimo will be named. A gem dragonborn will be transformed into a Ruby Dragonborn, resembling the ruby ring of Sardior and lead the Loxodon until ser death. After a naval accident on route to Isoliort you find yourself in a temple filled with strange runes and Owl-folk skeletons. It seems to point to four other such ruins spread across the island of Isoliort... The storm has disrupted Matala, and the other temples may be the only way to save the Loxodon population and prevent them from perishing during the half-year long winter. Isoliort is a frigid and frozen island in the arctic circle, inhabited by Loxodon (Mammoth-folk), Frost Giants, Lynxfolk and Gem Dragonborn. During the winter the northern Loxodon population is teleported to the capital city (also named Isoliort) in a grand ritual called Matala. During the winter these northern lands freeze over and aberrant fungi take over the tundra, leaving no survivors.
Game style
Dungeon Crawl
A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!
Combat Heavy
“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Yannick is pretty much the only DM I've ever had so I have no reference. Still I think he's always done an amazing job. We've been travelling through his meticulously crafted world for multiple years. Our characters have grown through that time and Yannick puts in effort to connect the world to the character and the other way around. You have to be very flexible to pull it off like he does. That also shines through in 'regular' weekly sessions where perhaps we go completely off the plot through a chance roll and he rolls with it. If you are creative and want to use your characters in interesting ways, Yannick can make it work through his extensive knowledge and a perfect amount of goodwill, not too little not too much. In short: you'll travel through a world created by a person who really cares for it and its details, your characters will naturally be a part of this world and you'll be engaged every session.
When playing with Yannick you get a lot of creative freedom in how you solve difficult situations, he knows a lot about DnD and will likely always find a way to make your weird ideas work in game, like when I wanted to use ducttape to stop someone from chanting a spell. He also loves puzzles, they can be a bit complicated, but it is a fun way to diversify the game. He puts a lot of effort into world building and loves making beautiful maps to make his world come to life. Overall he is an enthusiastic and very knowledgeable DM, highly recommend! (And he does voices very well!)
I've been playing D&D for over 5 years and have regularly played with Yannick for over 2 of those years. I can say that those were some of the best campaigns and one-shots I have played. He provides a fun interactive world, many interesting roleplaying opportunities, fun and challenging encounters and an overall great experience. As long as you don't have a disdain for kobolds (pests) or a fear of puzzles, I can only recommend giving him a chance

How to prepare
Make sure you have: - An idea of what you would like to play - A roll20 account - A discord account
What I provide
We will be playing in Roll20. You can use your own characters from DnD beyond in this game too if you know how to import them, otherwise it is fairly simple to make one in Roll20 (with some guidance from me of course). During the game I will mainly use a variety of maps I made with Inkarnate as battlemaps, city maps and hex-exploration maps. I like using 2minutetabletop tokens for my monsters, and prefer to use as little AI as possible, but google is getting better at hiding the AI generated images... I like to run combats with more going on than just the monster in an empty field. Creative use of environment and tactics will always be encouraged! The Rule of Cool will be called upon regularly, but sticking with the Rules as Written will be rewarded also. During the game we will also explore the map of Isoliort, using a semi-homebrew exploration system where everyone can contribute to surviving and discovering new locations. While this campaign is less roleplay focused, you will still have the chance to meet interesting NPCs with their own goals and decently-well-voice-acted-voices. We'll use the Discord "Watch Together" activity to listen to music in the background during the session. Mostly the Bardify and Blue Turtle youtube channels, so you can already get in the mood by looking those up!
Gameplay details
Before the session 0 I will send each player the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist, already filled in with parts that I personally will not be including in the game by default, with blank paces for the players to fill in more themselves. There are no sexual themes present in the story, and any sexual encounters will strictly be fade to black. Additionally, children will likely not be mentioned during the campaign, period. After everyone filled out the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist I will update it and pin it in Discord, going over the points during session 0 as well. All players will be expected to adhere to this list to the best of their ability. Throughout the game we will take one break about halfway through. Since we are playing on discord all players are always free to send me an X, N or O in a direct message. This allows the game to continue smoothly without worrying about interrupting the game, while still staying comfortable.

How will character creation work
We will be using the 2024 rules where possible. See below for further details. We will have a session zero of about 2 hours where we make characters together and I can help with setting you up in roll20. I need you to come with a character idea already. Whether this be a vague concept so we can find a fitting class and subclass together, or a fully thought through level progression for each level. The characters will be made together and I will prompt you to think of ways you are connected to your fellow adventurers. I will urge you to think of ways you are connected to the world and to think of compelling motivation to go on this quest. During the first two hours we will roll for stats together. Each array rolled can then be picked by any of the other players. We love the randomness, but also like all characters starting on the same footing. We will start at level 3 in de 5e 2024 system. Subclasses that don't exist yet are allowed, but do communicate about this with me to make sure it will work well. Using old species/races is allowed, but preferably we change the existing species to our needs. I enjoy and encourage reflavouring! We will level up about every other session and we should reach level 8 by the end of the campaign.
