Introduction to Talam- Howling Winds
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot
About the adventure
A first session for me to dip my toes into StartPlaying! I do character creation a little bit differently from the normal 5e system, so we'll have to block out time in the beginning to make characters together. This is a quick little adventure to allow players to see my style and maybe try my creations, and also for me to get to know potential future players!
Game style
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Combat Heavy
“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

How to prepare
You'll need a mic, and an account on discord. You will also need a google account so I can share world information with you for character creation or additional spells and classes. We will be rolling all dice in discord using a bot so as to keep everyone accountable.
What I provide
All of my custom content is fairly well organized in google docs which I will be more than happy to share. Otherwise, I have the basic rulebooks for 5e physically available. I do not currently have any sort of digital tabletop platform like Tabletop Simulator, but I may be open to moving to one of those platforms. I sometimes do character voices, ranging from truly unique to nothing special. I always have some sort of music playing (mostly stolen from various video games I grew up playing). I personally love to present challenging combat to my players. I've created a lot of monsters for my homebrew world (or at least new stat blocks for pre-existing monsters) and like to create "scary" NPCs. I'm generally fairly good at knowing my party's skill level and capabilities, and being able to build challenges tailored to them. I am a big fan of the rule of cool (unless it just absolutely doesn't make sense), and I normally play with a good few changes to the Rules as Written. I love to honor nat 20s, even outside of combat, and I love honoring the legendary 20s even more. That 1 in 400 roll has to be worth something. I like to give my players all of the cool and powerful stuff they could possibly want and then make a challenge to meet them.
Gameplay details
If there are ever any issues you have with something happening in a session, please just feel free to talk to me. I've had my fair share of sessions that were not fun at all because of the DM or another player. If something really bothers you in the moment, please just respectfully speak up or message me an X,N, or O. Otherwise, we can talk about it after the fact.

How will character creation work
We will handle character creation in the beginning of the session. We'll start at level 10, and I'll provide resources for creating characters. You'll want to use either a physical sheet to create your character, or a digital sheet that you can edit. (You will not be able to use D&D Beyond, for example, because I have made changes to every race for the purpose of balance.) I use the typical 4d6 drop the lowest format for rolling stats, but with a few exceptions. I will never make you take more than one ability score below 10. And if you really don't like your rolls, I will also have a predetermined set of numbers that you are free to use. I cannot stress enough that I only use the 5e PHB and my own content. I do not own any of the extra books, and I do not intend to buy them. I think a lot of the basic content in 5e books is poorly balanced, and I have done a lot of work to change that. I've even reworked a few of the subclasses in the PHB (cough cough, most of the wizard subclasses)
