About the adventure

⚫️ The doomsayers, the priests, the unquiet dead, babble and scream about the coming End of Days. If true, still doesn't change the fact you're alive for now, perhaps lucky to be so. And you're going to make the best of it! But then, the dreams started. You're no stranger to nightmares (and the odd hallucination) -- but this is different. This is persistent, insistent, you feel the truth of it in your bones! Telling you to be ready for the coming of the Sleeping Knight, and the rise of the "Shade Sanctum." Yet, even as the name of this place chills you, you cannot tell if it is a place of evil, or salvation! (...sometimes, you wonder, is there a difference?) Regardless, it calls to you...⚫️ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 🔎 Explore a twisted world of darkness, chaos, and madness! An extended campaign, inspired by the VERMIS art-books. There will be plenty of nightmarish enemy to kill, and run from! Much to explore and many puzzles to solve! Even in this land of dark madness, towns and villages continue to cling to life. Mostly sane humans still strive to endure in an ever-decaying, crumbling world. And there are still stories to be found -- tales waiting to unfold before the prophesied Great End arrives. 💀 "I don't know what VERMIS is??" That's fine! You don't need to! VERMIS is a pair of art-books by "Plastiboo" that pretend to be a 1980s-era guidebook for a game that never existed. For a glimpse, here's a video by "MYTHONICS": https://www.youtube.com/shorts/nuWoivv_Ixk -- Familiarity will not aid you in any adventure clues or events! -- Lack of familiarity will not penalize you in any game events! It is being used for inspiration and content, and tone guide. Familiarity will simply add to a feeling of, "Oh I recognize this!" VERMIS inspiration will make this campaign lean more into a grimdark medieval setting. 💀 "I don't know what MöRK BORG is??" That's fine! You don't need to! Naturally, you'll likely want to know a bit about what the game and setting are about, else, why choose MöRK BORG to play?? The official site: https://morkborg.com/ YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW THE GAME RULES TO PLAY IN THIS CAMPAIGN! MöRK BORG is a punk/death metal/rules-lite old-school RPG. Think: -- "Between Two Fires" (novel) -- "Elden Ring" (game) -- "Mad God" (2021 film) -- Conan the Cimmerian -- Lovecraftian horror -- Berserk (manga) -- "The Green Knight" (2021 film)

About me

Greetings and well met! I'm Deirdre, long-time nerd and proud of it! I've been playing RPGs since Moldvay D&D circa 1981, and almost exclusively a GM since 1988! D&D was always my go-to, but I cut my teeth as well on "Star Frontiers," "Top Secret," "Villains and Vigilantes," and anything I could get my poor and grubby hands on. But always, I seemed to be the friend in the group that had to be the one running the games -- correction: the one facilitating the story we're all creating! RPGs in my estimation, are shared stories to be crafted by all participants! Even when it's a game like "Paranoia" when the GM IS *actually* out to get you, the game is a cooperative effort in seeing where a story goes. Throughout the early 2000s, I was a "Bounty Hunter" for AEG and went from local hobby stores to GenCon running games for AEG, like "Spycraft" and "Stargate," promoting those products with true love in my heart! But truth be told, I started not caring much for d20 and what it was becoming.... I've always preferred TTRPGs that had more free-form, role-play, storytelling, world-building elements to it! I eventually glommed onto "Fading Suns," "Call of Cthulhu," "Eclipse Phase," and "Savage Worlds." The pandemic opened up my love for indie and solo-heavy RPGs like "Ironsworn" and "Broken Shores" and "Cairn." As well as the world of VTTs and online gaming! And now, I lean more toward OSR-style systems like "MoRK BORG," "Pirate Borg," and Shadowdark." I'm something of a writer with several short stories (published by _other_ people, if that matters *grin*) and self-published stories and a SF novel. Otherwise, I'm a big ol' goof finding her way in her new forever-home of the Pacific Northwest, picking up crabbing, collecting prepper shtuff and things, Squishmallows (don't judge me), and finding a newfound obsession with Minecraft! (BTW: My reviews do refer to "Liam" and "he" because I'm recently out trans woman -- normally not important, but just to explain the reviews.)

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters together during the first session. It's a fun process and only takes maybe 30-40 minutes total for the party. One of the goals of the process is to help create connections and camaraderie within the party. (I discourage, though not forbid, inner-party in-character discord.) Some aspects of character creation: -- We'll follow the creation process as written, yes, including assigning ability scores in order regardless of desired class... except PCs start with max HP. -- Character traits will be assigned semi-randomly: On each table, you will roll and I will roll, and then you choose which result to take. -- You must choose a class for your character. Info for the core classes will be provided. You are welcome to select from the supplement book "Mörk Manual" (no one is required to be familiar with this add-on).

The current party

Session 1 has been completed, but don't let that deter you! We still have space for another player, and I can get you in and up to speed without undo effort! At this point, it WOULD be more helpful for you to already have some Mörk Borg and Roll20 experience, so you can more seamlessly slide into the game. But you don't have to worry about having missed much!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need to have: -- Roll20 player account -- Discord account -- at least a mic, a cam is optional -- a familiarity with Mörk Borg as a setting and type of game, but NOT necessarily the rules. (I do recommend at least having the basic rules available to you. You can get the bare-bones version here: https://jnohr.itch.io/mrk-borg-free .) We will make characters during the first session. You do not need to bring anything aside the above.

What Deirdre Ceridwen brings to the table

Rule of cool! A lot of Theater of the Mind! I value and reward creative play! The game, setting, and this campaign is dangerous and deadly! However, your GM is not out to get ya'! I do not believe in a GM vs Players dynamic. It's my role to adjudicate action and help facilitate an interesting story we all work together to create! I'll provide Roll20 and Discord server (you'll need to have accounts, of course), and all the art and assets in the VTT. And bad voices!

Safety

How Deirdre Ceridwen creates a safe table

The setting and tone of Mörk Borg is deeply dark, twisted, and violent, and this campaign leans into that. There WILL be depictions of psychotic violence and dark and disturbing images and events. Including... ((A note on SA)) ...While very sparingly, there will be rare references to, and implications of, sexual violence in the game. HOWEVER! Sexual violence will ***NOT*** happen to the PCs, and the PCs will ***NOT*** be allowed to commit it! This will be a queer and trans-friendly space! "Our world" bigotry, racism, sexism by the players will not be tolerated (though fantasy-world bigotries may be experienced in-game).
