Your Life as a Teenage Superhero! | A game for players of all ages and experience levels
Masks: A New Generation | One-Shot
About the adventure
Welcome to The City, the largest one in the world. It may have had a name once, but it would be reductive to call this massive stretch of territory by any one name. Almost a thousand miles in any direction from the center, with hundreds of districts ranging from farmland to urban art centers. The City has the best technology, the best hospitals, the best entertainment... and, oh yeah, the best Superheroes! Enter... you! You've only just discovered your powers, or perhaps you were born with them, or perhaps you've never had any to begin with. Maybe you were a normal kid, maybe you were born into a legacy of heroes, maybe you don't remember your past much at all. Whatever your story, you're a hero now. Time to go to school, get your license, and get assigned a district to defend. There's no shortage of baddies who think they can do whatever they want. Time for you, and your team of fellow super-powered classmates, to show them what's up! Your Life as a Teenage Superhero! is a game using the Masks: a New Generation game system. You take on the role of a teenage superhero, with all the emotional baggage that comes with it. Get ready to laugh, show off, fall down, look like a fool, ask someone to prom, and maybe just save the world while you do it!
Game style
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

How to prepare
Players should have a microphone and, ideally, webcam prepared. I understand being on camera can be uncomfortable, so it is not a requirement, but it does make gameplay smoother. Players should have a Zoom account. The free version will work perfectly fine, but I will only accept players into the meetings, so please have your name set to match your name on startplaying Players should have all the documents I send them on hand, as well as the ability to roll two six-sided dice, whether physical or virtual. Otherwise, all players need to bring is a character in mind that they like and would want to play.
What I provide
I will provide character sheets and rule books via PDF. Ambient music over a virtual medium is tricky, but each character will have a unique voice for an immersive gameplay experience. As with most games in this system, the Rule of Cool and Rule of Narrative are supreme. My focus is on crafting a collaborative story based on the characters the players create and the choices they make along the way.
Gameplay details
I use a session 0 in all of my campaigns, and especially when entering new groups. This gives me a chance to get to know everyone, and to establish other mental health safety concerns and techniques that I have used both as a GM and teacher/educator. Session 0 is also vital to my understanding of the type of story the group wants to tell moving forward. All sessions are virtual, and so private messaging on Zoom/Discord is the primary tool for X cards, while N and O cards can be more public. My primary focus is on you, your characters, and how to best tell the story your group wants. This can't be done if events in the story cause actual real world pain through triggers of trauma. My job as your Narrator, is to curate a story that you will enjoy and get fulfillment from, and part of that includes keeping the environment safe for everyone.

How will character creation work
We will do character creation during the second half of session 0. I'll send all required documents prior to our first meeting, and everyone can select whatever they wish beforehand. The most important thing will be to come with a character in mind that they'd have fun playing, what kind of Superhero interests you the most? This is an EXCELLENT introduction to role playing games, so all characters will start at level 1.
