To The Last Man!|Horde Mode| Monster Manual Event
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot
About the adventure
**Any magic items or rewards gained in this adventure can be used in future games run by me within the Forgotten Realms!** Ironspine Keep was supposed to be an easy assignment—just another routine guard post for the Lord’s Alliance. But when you arrive, the truth becomes clear: the fortress is under siege. Szass Tam, the undead tyrant of Thay, has sent a spectral warlord and a horde of undead to claim the keep for his own. Worse yet, his illusory image looms over the battlefield, promising doom to all who resist. With the might of the Sword Coast’s greatest cities behind you, it’s up to your party to rally the defenses, forge alliances, and hold the line against an overwhelming enemy. Will you rise as heroes and turn the tide, or will Ironspine Keep fall into darkness once more? “Hold Back the Dead” is part of a yearlong celebration of Dungeons & Dragons and its 50th anniversary. The adventure is designed for four to six level 4 characters. Accompanying the adventure are character sheets for the six protagonists of the beloved 1980s Dungeons & Dragons animated series: Bobby, Diana, Eric, Hank, Presto, and Sheila, all presented in young adulthood. Each player can choose one of these characters or provide a character of their own This is a One-Shot! 3 to 4 hours in length. Join today to discover which magic items you can choose from to help HOLD BACK THE DEAD!

How to prepare
1. Please have a free profile created on D&D Beyond, but not required. I can always provide you with character information if you prefer, but D&D Beyond is the best tool for new players! 2. You'll need a way to communicate on Discord. Usually earbuds with a mic plugged into a device is good! No camera necessary, but I'm always happy to appear on camera...or hide my hideous visage. 3. Technically, Owlbear Rodeo and Discord, and D&D Beyond can be accessed from tablets and phones....HOWEVER...The most comfortable setup will be for you to have either a Chromebook, Macbook, or PC Laptop, or Desktop PC. (When I'm a player, I tend to use my Desktop PC for Discord, and for whatever Virtual Tabletop the DM is using. Then I use an iPad for D&D Beyond.)
What I provide
-D&D Beyond: I’ll provide a shared campaign link so you can easily create your character or use a pre-made one. (This means you should have a free profile created on D&D Beyond, but not required. I can always provide you with character information if you prefer, but D&D Beyond is the best tool for new players!) -Owlbear Rodeo: Our virtual tabletop for maps and tokens, accessible via any web browser—no downloads required. (This means our game sessions will be a mixture of "theater of the mind," and map-based combat with digital tokens.) -Discord: We’ll use voice chat for clear communication and immersive storytelling. (So you'll need microphone/headphones to suit your preference. I'm happy to help troubleshoot if needed. No camera necessary, but I'm always happy to appear on camera...or hide my hideous visage.)
Gameplay details
We'll begin with a discussion of my non-negotiables (also found in my DM Profile). Additionally, the discussion will include any important items that players want avoided in this brief campaign. The use of breaks will be used, not just as practical, "hey it's time for a quick break!" but also as way to reflect on where we've been, narratively, and to ensure players are comfortable. At the end of each game session, there will be a chance for another reflection on narrative themes and content. In general, I am always seeking player feedback to help make this the game you want to play. Please DM me in Discord if we brush up against an X, N, or O context!

How will character creation work
1. Brand new players will be coached in creating a character either before game time or given a Pregenerated character. (Probably in D&D Beyond) 2. If players know how to create characters, and want to craft their character ahead of the first session...that's GREAT! 3. Once you join the game, I'll share my D&D Beyond Campaign link for players to create their characters, if they choose. 4. Most 3rd party character choices are welcome. ALL Core 2024 Players Handbook Characters are acceptable. If you have something unique in mind, just ask!
