A Knife's Edge | 🏳️🌈 + Beginner Friendly
Cyberpunk Red | Campaign
About the adventure
It's another day in Night City, the city of dreams. There's a nuclear crater in the old city centre, the sky is tinted red with pollution and sometimes it rains oil. The world is recovering from a global corporate war that shook society to its foundations. Yeah it's bleak, but in all the chaos the megacorporations no longer hold all the cards. That means something irresistible to someone like you: opportunity. You are an edgerunner, a merc for hire with a set of highly desirable skills that you apply to get the job done and hopefully come out of with your life and soul intact. You could be in it for money, fame, power, or a cause. Whatever it is, you're willing to put your life on the line and risk everything for it. Your fixer just called and they have a job lined up for you. Pay is high, risk is higher. Life's cheap in Night City, and rent ain't. So suit up and chip in, it's time to ride that edge. __ This is a beginner-friendly campaign set in the Cyberpunk Red world in 2045. It runs on a gig-a-week system where you will be sent on a variety of missions to solve tasks for different employers. The gigs are sourced from official materials such as Tales Of The Red as well as self-written gigs, all hand-selected for and interwoven with your characters' stories to form a cohesive street-level story with an overaching narrative that affects and is affected by your actions. Don't expect to cause world-changing events, but do expect your actions to have consequences for you and your fellow edgerunners!
Game style
Rules as Written (RaW)
Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
This is a beginner-friendly Cyberpunk Red campaign set in 2045. It does not run any one module, and instead draws from a number of source books and the player backstories to build the campaign. I will have a chat/call with new players that join in order to introduce each other and go over character creation and brief you on what to expect personally.

How to prepare
No experience or prior system knowledge is required, however it can be advantageous to read the Cyberpunk Red Easy Mode PDF, which is free to download. This will give you a good overview of the basic rules and lore of the system. You will need a microphone and working laptop/PC with internet, a Discord account (a link to the Discord is provided on sign up) and a browser that can run FoundryVTT. A list of minimum requirements can be found on the FoundryVTT website. Characters should be created and ready in time for your first session.
What I provide
I will bring the following: FoundryVTT (only I need a paid copy) Discord server A clear microphone Battlemaps Ambient and combat music A unique landing page in the VTT for accessing gear and character sheets -GM Style: I am very player oriented in my approach to narrative, and utilise the system's fantastic Lifepath system to help implement the characters' backstories into plots and shape gigs. This helps hit one of the golden rules of cyberpunk: make it personal! I use RAW for the majority of things, so if a rule exists for it I will generally go with what is written, but I am always willing to go with Rule of Cool if it doesn't break the game. My games tend to be roleplay heavy, and I love coming up with fun recurring and one off NPCs that leave a lasting impression. I love seeing players come up with interesting ways to resolve situations, so I try to go with a yes and/yes but approach to unconventional ideas, which is to say I might expand on an idea or offer an alternative suggestion that matches the spirit of what you're trying to achieve. -Combat: Combat is to be expected, but not a necessity every session. Some sessions may be mostly investigation or downtime. Combat could also be nonviolent and entirely verbal. Enemies are reactive, and will respond to what the players do. Their will to fight varies wildly based on their characteristics, the environment and the opposition. Expect the average ganger to flee or surrender if they are hopelessly outgunned, while a hardened merc might fight to the death to save their reputation. I aim to create a balance that makes combat deadly, but not unfair. Death is often a consequence of failure in Cyberpunk, but not always guaranteed. The option for retreat may be possible, but expect consequences for failure such as gaining a poor reputation, losing out on payment or getting on the bad side of quest givers.
Gameplay details
Session 0 is where I set the tone and expectations of my games. I will brief players on where the campaign is at and discuss their experience with the system, TTRPGs and the lore. Session 0 is typically done as a group, but is also done individually for players that join after a campaign starts. Session 0 is not paid. Players will be briefed on themes to be expected in my games during session, and I will send across a consent checklist of common themes along with my own Lines and Veils, and players can share their own. The content warning is a list of themes that you can expect to encounter as they are core to the setting and gameplay. I use X, N and Os that are messaged virtually, and provide a list of Lines and Veils and triggers (which are anonymous) for all players at Session 0 and to players that join later. If triggers are hit, I will pause the game and check in with the player. If they wish, we can "fade to black" to move past the triggering moment or retcon it fully or stop the game. Any player is free to step away whenever they need without judgement. There will be a 10 minute break roughly halfway into the session and players can step away if needed. Life doesn't pause just because we're at the table and I'm never going to chastise someone for needing to take a break. Post-session I check in with players verbally and talk through the session, check everyone's comfort and decompress. Each session has its clearly marked start and end point, and will indicate what is in and out of character. Outside of session, I like to check in with each player periodically and check how they're enjoying the campaign, what they would like more/less of and what could be done to improve their enjoyment.

How will character creation work
Character creation is addressed in session 0, and I will go through aspects of character generation such as lifepath. I like to get a feel for what kind of character you want to play, your backstory and offer advice and guidance throughout the process. I won't typically create the entire character with the you from scratch to completion in session 0, but will provide as much guidance on how the process works as required e.g roles, stats, skills, cyberware etc. I typically use the "complete package" method of character creation. That said, if you would rather use one of the other "template" styles of character creation, that's totally fine too! I just ask you still do a full lifepath. You can use digital PDF character sheets or json files if you have them, but I also strongly recommend the Cyberpunk Red app (available on phone and PC) as I can directly import the results into Foundry. Characters start at Role ability level 4 and Reputation level 0.
