Throne of Shadows
Dungeons & Dragons 5e, Homebrew Game | Campaign
About the adventure
Throne of Shadow The Kingdom of Ironspire stands as a beacon of wealth and power, its gleaming spires rising above the land in a display of strength and prosperity. From the grand capital of Vandermere, King Aldric IV rules over a kingdom that has known centuries of dominance. But even the mightiest of empires are not immune to the passage of time, and whispers of unrest stir beneath the surface. The king, now in his twilight years, has only one heir—his sixteen-year-old son, a boy untested by the weight of the crown. With rival kingdoms watching for weakness and unseen forces moving in the shadows, Ironspire’s future has never been more uncertain. Fate has called upon you. Whether you are a noble seeking influence, a sellsword in search of glory, or a scholar chasing ancient knowledge, your path has led you to Vandermere at a time when the kingdom needs brave souls more than ever. Rumors swirl of powerful artifacts, shifting alliances, and secrets buried deep in the heart of the land. As destiny unfolds, your choices will shape the fate of Ironspire—will you be its savior, its conqueror, or merely a witness to its fall? This is a high fantasy adventure designed for beginners and experienced players alike. We will begin at Level 3, giving you a strong foundation to craft your character while keeping the game accessible. Expect a mix of combat, intrigue, and exploration, where every decision carries weight. Whether you seek battle, diplomacy, or the pursuit of forgotten knowledge, your story in Ironspire is yours to tell. The king needs your bravery. Will you answer the call?
Game style
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Session 0 is completely free! However, to confirm commitment to the campaign, players will prepay for Session 1 when they join Session 0. This ensures that everyone is genuinely invested in the game before we begin our adventure.

How to prepare
Before we dive into our DND session, let's get all set up for a good time. Grab your favorite snacks and drinks so you can stay in the game without interruptions. We'll be using Discord and Roll20 for our gaming fun, so here's what you'll need: - Discord: You'll need a microphone for sure, but don't worry, using a webcam is totally optional. It's all about what you're comfortable with. - Roll20: Make sure you have a trusty laptop or PC handy because Roll20 doesn't play nice with phones or tablets. Having everything ready in advance ensures we can jump right into the adventure without any hiccups.
What I provide
As the game master for our online sessions, I'll be making sure everything is set up for a fantastic gaming experience. Here's what I'll bring to the virtual table: Dice and Mechanics: - While players are welcome to use their real dice, I'll have multiple bots at the ready that can handle dice rolls and mechanics to keep the game flowing smoothly. Character Art Assistance: - I can help players find suitable art for their characters before the game begins, ensuring that everyone has a visual representation of their hero or heroine. Maps and Puzzles: - I'll come prepared with maps and puzzles to challenge the party during our adventures. These visual aids will help immerse you in the world and add depth to our storytelling. Monsters and Encounters: - Don't worry; I won't forget the monsters! I'll be managing all the creatures, non-player characters, and encounters to keep the action exciting and engaging. Music and Atmosphere: - I'll have a selection of background music and sound effects queued up to enhance the atmosphere and make our sessions even more immersive. While I won't be providing physical maps or illustrations post-game, I'll ensure that our virtual gaming experience is rich and memorable, with everything you need for an epic adventure right at your fingertips.

Session 0 for DND 5E with Me as the GM Session 0 is a crucial step before we officially embark on our adventure. It’s our chance to sit down, collaborate, and shape the campaign together. This includes character creation, discussing the setting, clarifying expectations, and setting the tone for the game. What to Expect in Session 0 - Character Creation – Players will brainstorm character concepts, choose races and classes, and establish backstories. I’m open to creating homebrew races, classes, or subclasses for unique ideas, ensuring the party composition makes sense and that everyone is excited about their characters. - World-Building – We’ll explore the campaign setting, discussing key elements like culture, politics, and geography to help players understand their characters' place in the world. - Expectations & Boundaries – Open dialogue is essential. We'll discuss content restrictions, themes, and potential triggers to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. I prioritize player comfort and use tools like X, N, and O cards (digital or physical) to maintain clear communication. - Rules & Mechanics – We’ll go over any house rules or homebrew content specific to the campaign. - Player Safety & Inclusivity – My goal is to foster a respectful and inclusive space for players of all backgrounds, experience levels, and ages. Session 0 is completely free! However, to confirm commitment to the campaign, players will prepay for Session 1 when they join Session 0. This ensures that everyone is genuinely invested in the game before we begin our adventure. Ongoing Support & Communication Our table is a safe and welcoming space, and I’m committed to making sure every player feels comfortable. We’ll have post-session aftercare to check in, address concerns, and provide support as needed. By establishing clear expectations and open communication from the start, we can create an engaging, immersive, and enjoyable DND experience for everyone!

How will character creation work
Character Creation Process: During our initial Session 0, I will facilitate a collaborative character creation session for the players who are present at that time. This will allow them to work together to establish their characters, discuss concepts, backgrounds, and motivations, and decide on mechanical aspects. Private Character Creation: For players who join the campaign later, or for those who prefer a more private character creation process, I will provide the option for them to create their characters separately. They can work with me individually to develop their character sheets, backgrounds, and abilities in a way that aligns with the campaign. Flexibility: I understand that some players may have specific preferences for character creation, and I aim to accommodate those preferences. Whether it's a collaborative group creation or a private session, my goal is to ensure that each player feels comfortable and has the opportunity to contribute to the development of their character. Session 0 is Free: Session 0 is completely free! However, to confirm commitment to the campaign, players will prepay for Session 1 when they join Session 0. This ensures that everyone is genuinely invested in the game before we begin our adventure.
