Absurdia: Burgeoning Chaos

Absurdia: Burgeoning Chaos

Absurdia, Powered by the Apocalypse RPG | Campaign

About the adventure

Welcome to Illogia, a town so infused with entropy that every hallmark of normalcy is infused with chaos. Of course the town cemetery has visiting days for people to interact with the living dead - to not have such a thing would be abnormal! This is where you live, having slowly grown accustomed to the abnormality. After all, one can only be surprised by Trash Collection so many times before they learn to expect it (the inherent danger of it serves as an excellent motivator). You've also lived here long enough to know there's no way to escape this place (yet?) - all you can do is try to survive and overcome the community you live in. Torn between your alliances to yourself, your friends, and your factions; how long will it take before you, too, are absorbed by the strangeness about town? This is a simple starter mystery for players of all experience levels, so feel free to join even if you're unfamiliar with the system! Note: Except for under extenuating circumstances, leaving the game less than 3 hours before game time will not be refunded.

Game style

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

I had fun. I think others had fun. That's the important thing. It was a one shot, so I can't speak to great epics, but it was a fun time. She rolled with our ideas and made a good session, and honestly, if you can do that each time you're doing pretty darn good. Beyond just the entirely subjective "I had fun" part. I will say that she was well prepared and had useful tools for making sure that the game would go well and people were organized. To me that seems more useful to mention when leaving a review as fun is very personal. Things like setting up the environment to have fun are likely to be more widely applicable in suggesting that a given GM is good or bad for you.

Super flexible for my kind of roleplaying, and really generous when it comes to "yes and"ing and is always well versed in rules and helpful during games.

Sonder did an awesome job at creating an atmospheric game and ensuring players got their time to speak. Would love to play with them again.

Sonder is amazing at working with the player's concept of their character, and how the character interacts with the world and its characters. The result is much more immersive, and generating the feeling you are writing the story together. There is no sense of a pre-ordained narrative.
