Here There Be Dragons | Custom Setting Campaign
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Welcome to the land of Honodhrel, where scaled wings glint under sunlit skies! Cloistered by ancient mists that make any foreigner on Honodhrel's shores forget its existence upon departing, this diverse continent is rife with the most majestic and mysterious creatures to walk the surface of the material plane... dragons. For seven centuries, the three factions of Honodhrese dragons-- metallic, chromatic, and gemstone-- have been at peace, bound by a contract called the Pax Drakon that was signed at the end of a bloody millennium of war. The various humanoid nations of Honodhrel live alongside its dragons. They study draconic arts and pray to draconic gods. But in the forgotten places of the continent, something is brewing... a vengeful force that threatens to upend the Pax Drakon and send the inhabitants of every Honodhrese nation into chaos. But that's not for YOU to worry about! You'll be playing a party of level 3 adventurers gathered in the wilds of Mayajuri, the kingdom where the Pax Drakon was originally signed. You can be searching for money, fame, power, revenge, lost loved ones-- whatever suits your fancy! Much like your typical D&D party, you'll meet in a tavern, and a flurry of deadly coincidences will spur you forth toward adventure. IN THIS CAMPAIGN, expect: - Lots of roleplay - Lore, intrigue, and history - Colorful environments and chaotic NPCs - Creative combat - Open-ended problems - Steadily-climbing stakes - Dragons. So many dragons.
Game style
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Storytelling
Creativity
She is just the coolest. She has this incredibly immersive and captivating and interesting worldbuilding that makes the world feel so big and so real. There’s a ~100 page diary she wrote herself from the perspective of one of the villains that is so wonderful and well-written. She is an amazing storyteller, writer, actress, improviser, and is also just a wonderful person to spend time with. 10/10 would forever and ever recommend.
Evie is an incredibly clever story-oriented game master- she is a brilliant world builder and her skill for weaving themes into campaigns is amazing. She always works closely with her players, so any story told feels incredibly collaborative and beautifully interactive. She lets the party have fun while still keeping the game moving- I’m always really impressed by her ability to nudge the players to different story beats without feeling like she’s railroading in the slightest. She also has an awesome sense for party cohesion and how to bring together players who might not have played together before. Also, she does great voices. Basically, play with Evie if you want to tell/experience a great story in a beautifully fleshed-out world.
Having Evie as our Game Master was a wonderful experience! The world was rich and full of life (and death lol). If success was measured by fun than I would say Evie set our party up for success. Evie embodied each NPC, and they fit in to the world in ways that endearing/abhorrent ways that one can't help but enjoy. #RIPCannonball and thank you Evie!

How to prepare
Before the game, make sure your mic and camera work on Discord. Come curious and ready to play!
What I provide
Get ready for intriguing NPCs (with fun voices!) and deep, immersive worldbuilding. Combat for this campaign will be Theater of the Mind, and when it comes to the rules, I wholeheartedly encourage you to wield the fine print like a weapon but embrace the Rule of Cool when it serves you best. Overall, my goal as DM is for you to have fun! I create worlds for players to get lost in and plots where your choices have a genuine impact, with rewards and consequences aplenty.
Gameplay details
Safety tools are very important to me as a DM. I want to make sure all my players feel comfortable in the game. Here There Be Dragons will include a free session zero, where we'll discuss your character ideas, what themes you do or don't want to encounter in the story, and how to tie your characters into the worldbuilding. After your session zero, all or most players will likely receive additional reference documents of characters and lore they'd be familiar with before the campaign begins. There will be a 10 to 15 minute break in the middle of each session. During the break, feel free to message me with any questions or concerns you have about the game so far. We'll debrief further after each game-- these can be anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, depending on how much the players want to discuss. I try to give players a chance to congratulate each other for any interesting choices they made in-game. Finally, in terms of Lines and Veils, I'll send you a copy of the Monte Cook RPG Checklist when you join our campaign's Discord server. After filling out the form, you can either message it to me directly or send it to the Safety Tools channel on the server.

How will character creation work
Character creation tips: - You'll be making a level 2 character and rolling for stats (4d6, drop the lowest) - ***We are using the legacy 2014 version of 5e, NOT 2024! - All characters (unless you play an aquatic species) get expertise (double proficiency) in the History skill because of Honodhrel's ambient memory magic - Bring character ideas to session 0-- you can make your character sheet in advance if you feel confident doing so, or I can help you figure it out in real time - Make your character sheet on whatever platform you'd like (D&D Beyond, Reroll, a fillable PDF, a physical piece of paper) as long as you can share a copy with me - Almost any source material is OK as long as we can tie it into the setting (no blatant sci-fi) - Build your character with a motivation to go adventuring and a reason to work with others in pursuit of their goals - FOR FUN: You may start the game with one Common or Uncommon magical item in addition to the listed starting equipment. Options can be found at http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/wondrous-items Make sure to clear your choice with me before we start playing.
