About the adventure
Do you want to help craft the world your character adventures in? Do you want to decide where and when your adventure group goes next? How does nearly complete agency over your game experience sound? This Shadowdark campaign will be run similar to West Marches, only with a fixed group of players. This means that YOU and your party members decide - What your goals are. - What you do next. Then, based on that, the game master will create the adventure/dungeon for you. Do you all want to be a band of mercenaries who sell their services to the highest bidder? Do you want to annex villages and towns to build a budding empire? Do you want to fight back the forces of evil (whatever you decide those to be)? Do you want to... The sky is the limit here. YOU DECIDE. The only real limitation is that this is a group game, so the expectation is that the party will stick together (mostly...see below) and be on the same page with their goals (mostly...see below). In the first game session, the group will collaboratively craft the world their adventures will take place in. This will involve - Creating the pantheon (deities) - Locations such as nations, cities, ruins, etc. - Deciding a variety of other high-level world details This campaign will allow AMPLE opportunity for downtime and characters' pursuing their own individual agendas. However, this will be implemented in such a way to still allow plenty of time for adventuring during game sessions. Players new to Shadowdark and TTRPGs in general are welcome! The rules are easy and few; you'll pick them up in no time, and I'm here to help. Shadowdark! Since we're using the Shadowdark RPG ruleset, be prepared for a dark, gritty game. There is no such thing as a precious character; be prepared to lose PCs. If unlimited raw power and curb stomping bad guys left and right is your jam, this campaign probably isn't for you. In this game the threat is real, the danger is real, but the rewards are even greater! This campaign is run by Luke Hart from the DM Lair YouTube channel. This is an ongoing Shadowdark campaign. Once you join the game, you'll receive an email with a link to the Discord server I use to manage my games. We use Foundry VTT for the game, but if you've never used it before, DON'T WORRY! It's not that complicated, and we'll help you get up to speed fast. And it's free for you with no downloads/installation required; you'll access the VTT via your browser. Super easy.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I've been a GM since ~1996, and I run the DM Lair YouTube channel. I run games because I love providing an awesome game experience for my players (and because being a GM is way more fun for me). My games are characterized by a mix of all three pillars (combat, exploration, and social interaction) and an emphasis on player agency (the freedom to make decisions and to experience the results of said decisions). I tend more toward a gritty game than otherwise.

Creating your character
Players should create one main character and a few backup characters prior to the game. This is a great, easy-to-use generator: https://shadowdarklings.net/create. I'll provide more information once you join our Discord.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Microphones and Cameras are both REQUIRED. If you're pounding a cheeseburger or BBQ ribs and need to turn the camera off, that's cool; but cameras should be on for most of gameplay. Players should create a few characters prior to the game and load them into the Foundry game to which I'll provide a link. More details will be provided once you join the game and the Discord I use to manage it.
What Luke (The DM Lair) brings to the table
I'll provide the VTT environment and tokens as needed. I'm big on using both "special voices" for NPCs and villains and ambient music. My games are equally balanced among the three pillars of combat, exploration, and social interaction. Don't be fooled by "dungeons." There's plenty of room for everything in them! I prepare for my games. I run smooth games. I'm dependable. If you want to have some fun smashing heads, sweet-talking your way past ugly ogres, and encountering unique challenges and situations, my games are for you. You're right. My games aren't cheap, but they are exceptional.
