Dolmenwood - Adventures in a Faerie Forest - Beginner Friendly!

Welcome to Dolmenwood, Dungeons & Dragons 1e | Campaign

About the adventure

Dolmenwood? Well, let me tell ye, everything you ever heard about the Wood is true and everything you ever heard is false. Dreams and fairies walk between standing stones and dancing trees, slipping in and out of the mortal world as easily as you or I slip through an open door. It’s right pretty though. Dare I say, beautiful even. All manner of enchantment lingers beneath its boughs. It’ll capture your heart if ye let it. And that sounds as lovely as a song until you realise the Wood’ll never, ever give it back without paying the proper cost.” —Ogham Tweede, bartender Dolmenwood is a hexcrawl in which every hex of the map has something to offer. There are oodles of adventure seeds and sure there is something to find and do at every turn of the corner. The world of dolmenwood is rich in detail. From custom plants and fungi to bespoke potions and even pipe weed. Want to train a hound? Dolmenwood has you covered! Want to taste the local food and drink. Go right on! But not all is cute and whimsy in Dolmenwood! There are powers at play that want to change this little forest forever. From the political machinations of the different noble houses, the enigmatic cold prince, who would like to bring his old demescne back into his fold, to the dark and sinister nag-lord who would love to corrupt Dolmenwood. Dolmenwood is an OSR (Old School Renaissance) game in the style of D&D 1E also known as BECMI. Key differences are as follows: - Ascending Armor Class - Race as Class is replaced with Kindreds and Class combinations. - The classic 4 classes of Fighter, Cleric, Thief and Magician are present. - New classes include: The Friar (A monk in the classical european way), the Knight (who has sworn fealty to one of the noble houses), the Hunter, Enchanter (who use fairy magic known as glamours) and the Bard. - New kindreds include: Breggle (goat people), Grimalkin (cat folk in the style of cheshire cats), Mosslings (a people deeply connected with plant life) and the Woodgrue (faerie goblin people that look like bat folk) - Most importantly though is that Dolmenwood is not a story campaign in the modern sense. This game can be joined at any given time and there is always a way to bring in a new character!

How to prepare

For my games you will need a discord account and desktop app (using the browser version of discord is not very stable), a relatively decent microphone and headphones (using speakers usually generates echo). There is no account required for my foundry server. Access to the foundry server's game is generated by me. This is an extremely easy entry to the roleplaying hobby and you will not need any previous experience!

What I provide

- Almost 30 years of experience as a Game Master and player in tabletop rpgs. -My own Foundry Server with 24/7 uptime, which in itself comes with lots of quality of life mods and more. - Beautiful tokens for monsters, npcs and player characters - A dedicated Discord server with a very friendly, helpful community to geek out with. - All the materials you need to play your character and the campaign.

Gameplay details

Safe Place I consider my games to be a safe space to have fun in, away from the troubles of everyday life. As such i have a zero-tolerance policy towards the discussion of politics, harrasment, racism and anything against gender identity and LGTBQ+ culture. Everyone is welcome at my table as long as they respect everyone else at the table. It is that simple! Lines, Veils and Limits We discuss and set lines and veils as well as limits for each player indivially. Everything will be compiled in a document by me. If a player joins us at a later date,I will inform them about the current state of the document and if they would like to add to it. At the next session i will then inform all players about any changes to the Lines, Veils and Limits document. X, N and O Cards If anything gets triggered a player can usually just pipe up in voice chat, but many elect to put it into chat to not disrupt the flow. This usually takes the form of keywords such as red, orange and green. Stars and Whishes At the end of each session we do a classical round of Stars and Wishes, if desired. But my door is always open for critique and I handle it very professionally. Never feel bad about communicating your wishes and critique to me. If you have issues with another player or their playstyle, please just contact me. I believe that most issues can be resolved just with communication. Breaks I have one scheduled break in the middle of the game, usually 5-10 minutes long. If a player needs a break, they can just pipe up in voice or chat and does not need to feel bad about it. RL happens to all of us! However the game usually continues (The others after all also paid for the game and want their money's worth out of a session!)

How will character creation work

It's important to know that this is an old school style game in which every character accrues XP individually and that this is not a campaign in the modern sense. Every character starts at level 1 no matter if your previous character died or you create a new character. That means this campaign, unlike story based campaigns, can be joined at any given point. Character creation: - 3d6 down the line - which means every stat is rolled after another - A single re-roll OR two shifts are permitted. A shift is a 1:1 shift of one ability score point to another ability score. - Hitpoints can be taken as average on the first level, or rolled, as preferred. But after that every hit point gain is rolled. - Dolmenwood offers a lot of tables to determine character looks and some of their general agenda. trinkets and starting equipment. We usually roll those, because rolling dice is fun!
