Neverwinter: Elemental Evil (1-20 D&D 5e)
Dungeons & Dragons 5e, Homebrew Game | Campaign
About the adventure
The Cults of Elemental Evil have declared a cataclysmic war on the civilised world, amassing allies and artefacts of immense power as they seek to bring about the annihilation of the world as we know it. Beneath it all, followers of Tharizdun work towards their own enigmatic goals, while the powers that be struggle to find heroes brave enough to confront the colossal evils facing the world. This is **not** Princes of the Apocalypse. Still, an ambitious, Faerun-spanning epic that borrows elements from Princes of the Apocalypse, the classic Temple of Elemental Evil and Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil modules, and a liberal dash of homebrew inspired, in part, by the Elemental Evil campaign in Neverwinter. Set against the backdrop of the infamous Spellplague that ravaged Faerun, cutting many off from their traditional sources of magic, the campaign starts in the ravaged city of Neverwinter, in which the Thayans, Netherese, Many Arrows Orcs, Eladrin of Ilyanbruen, Nashers, Neverember Loyalists, and the Abolethic Sovereignty vie for control of a ruined city. As players find their feet in this dynamic, warring cityscape, mysterious elemental assaults draw the attention of the powers that be and eventually lead them on an epic exploration of some of Faerun's most iconic locations. Battle the Cult of Eternal Flame on the slopes of an erupting Mount Hotenow, soar through the skies on flying mounts as you war with the Cult of the Howling Hatred and their sky fortress, venture into the depths of the Underdark to deal with the Cult of Black Earth, and head to exotic locations such as Icewind Dale, Chult, Thay, and the Moonshae Isles to halt a world-ending apocalypse. Along the way, we'll make use of some curated 3PP spells, classes, and races, utilise the excellent Talents system from Dragonix, and take inspiration from the best that D&D 2e, 3e, and even 4e had to offer when it comes to creating dynamic combats, intrigue-laden roleplay, and exhilarating exploration challenges.

This has only been my first session with Chris, but let me tell you: His style of DMing is exactly what I've been looking for for a long time. Often when you do paid sessions DMs feel like they need to provide combat or high action packed sessions, rushing the story forward, but Chris wasn't like this at all. He promotes players to actually roleplay their characters, have them interact with each other, and allow players to actually develop their characters. When he's playing NPCs he voice acts them, in hilarious, interactive and amazing ways, even using different languages he learned during his travels, which really brings the World to life. He's a true inspiration and any aspiring DMs would really enjoy seeing his style of DMing, because it shows you what could be and that you should not be scared to use that same style of DMing.
Chris is an amazing GM. He puts a ton of effort into his games and is really committed to giving characters instantly-recognizable voices that make figuring out who is speaking a complete non-issue. He's great at listening to character ideas and potential game concerns. I have a very unusual trigger and he was kind and conscientious about it in our session 0. He aims for a good split between combat and roleplay, and as a roleplayer-first, I appreciate having the room to give my character life. Chris is excellent at making sure everyone gets at least a little bit of the spotlight each game.

How to prepare
You'll need a microphone, headphones or earbuds, a Discord account, and a Roll20 and Foundry account. We use the latter for play but the former for their journal system.
What I provide
I'm a story-first kind of DM. I do not believe in an adversarial relationship between myself and my players and like to work with the group to conjure the best possible story experience. We'll be working together to tell a story, and while there will be challenges thrown in front of you that you should absolutely prepare for, I do not want the game to devolve into a GM vs. players fiasco that makes the game unfun for anybody. I love challenging my players with unique combats and scenarios, but I am also a big fan of roleplay and character development. I want to work with you to have ghosts from your past come back to haunt you or to engineer unique character moments for you to undertake alongside your allies. Put simply, I'm a story first, combat/puzzles/traps second, and min-maxing a distant last kind of guy. If that doesn't sound like you, chances are you aren't going to enjoy this style of game. ------------ Your $30 not only gets you an experienced DM with a tremendous set of resources at his disposal but also goes towards purchasing additional content as needed. This includes the ongoing Roll20 Pro subscription and additional battle maps, sourcebooks, and content that will be used to add to the campaign. I'm a trained actor who does a variety of voices, accents, and quirks to ensure NPCs feel like living, breathing parts of the world rather than just a set of stats. After each session, I'll put together a 1,000+ word session summary. I prepare high-quality, dynamic lighting-enabled battle maps (where needed), create a fully interactive landing page, and will have a purpose-built, fully-boosted Discord server for both OTT and game chat.

All sessions on the server begin with a comprehensive, free session zero in which safety tools, character creation, and tone are discussed in detail. Regular after-care is provided.

How will character creation work
Detailed character creation instructions will be provided ahead of time, and session zero will be reserved for safety tools and character creation. We will start at level 1 but use Dragonix's excellent Talents system to lift the power level a little. I'll also be making liberal use of 3PP and homebrew content to create a high-power, high-danger kind of game.
