Death of a Mountebank
The death of the bard Karlow Fassbender has led to an utterly improbable scenario. His music changed many lives...his legacy is still changing others.
About the adventure
Karlow Fassbender, a sometime petty thief and fulltime wannabe catburglar, was found floating face down in the River Wutjörn, in Craysilt's Southdock Slums neighborhood. Having been a small time crook, in the eyes of the law, The Craysilt Garda would not pay for a more thorough investigation into his death. Hired to investigate the murder, our heroes discovered tyreachery of the highest order, perhaps even reaching to the High King himself. Now, they find themselves leaving town to make themselves scarce...and to explore a lucrative offer from the Dwarf, Nubganz Bucklesmith. Kukiri Chasm has been abandoned for thousands of years, and the Dwarves feel it is time they were surveyed, assayed, and perhaps reopened. Who better for the job than a group of bold adventurers with proven track records? Especially since no dwarves are allowed to set foot within Kukiri Chasm...

About me
Our games are personalized and backstory driven, with the characters written right into the main plotline of the story. This is collaborative storytelling at its heart, and as a GM there is nothing better than seeing the PCs take a concept and run with it on their own. What you'll get from me is over forty years of experience, a detailed world fleshed out with custom maps and relatable NPCs, and an over arching plotline that will take your character's wants and needs fully into account. The world will move around you as you adventure, bringing side quests and tangential stories right along with it.

It was not what I expected, but it was far more useful than if it had been. Harlen kinda takes the time to fill in the blanks about running a game that the books leave out. Not as many nuts and bolts and more finding the right questions to ask yourself in preparation to tell a story with this game.
Harlen is an amazing DM! Not only does he makes his players feel safe at his table, but he also a fantastic storyteller. He has an incredibly rich world that is complex and fun to explore. He is committed to make sure that all the players are having fun while being challenging by very creative fights and ennemies. And I also have to mention hid maps. His maps are completely bonkers - they are gorgeous, immersive and so easy to use. You are looking for your next dm? Harlen is your guy. He is going to make your dnd campaign next level.
Harlen let me in a group that plays on Thursday and I've never regretted it! He saw the campaign start to finish and my charecter fit in with the entire group and I'm definetly playing in the next one, it was great start to finish to see a charecter fully finish a campaign and end in such a fun way. His stories and lore always make me curious and want to explore it won't let me pick more than 3 tags but he's great with voices and telling stories and the maps he makes all by hand are amazing!
Character creation
Creating your character
We made characters and discussed safety during our session 0, but new players will always get a brief onboarding concerning those topics.
The death of the bard Karlow has been investigated and "solved"...now our heroes are off to explore the Kukiri Chasm under the great mountains of the north. Where will the Death of the Mountebank lead them next?
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a roll20 account, and we also use Discord for the voice and video aspect. Cameras are encouraged, but not required to play in this game.
What Harlen brings to the table
We will be using roll20 as a VTT, and Discord for voice and video. I make all the maps, and write all the stories, myself. This setting has been evolving through gameplay for twenty odd years, and has become a lovely place to waste some time in while playing games. I'm looking forward to sharing it with you!
Homebrew rules
We have homebrew rules around critical hit damage, and drinking potions is a bonus action. Others may come up as we play, of course, but those are the biggest two changes.

How Harlen creates a safe table
If, at any time, there is something in the game making you uncomfortable, just DM me and it will stop. I will need no explanation, I will just make it stop. This is meant to be fun for all of us, and there is no reason we cannot make that happen.
