Mage: The Awakening 1e | Campaign

About the adventure

(Second campaign in an ongoing story, new players welcome!) It is spring semester at Cascadia Academy! Magic spells and social cliques are dominating this illustrious campus magically hidden within the mountains of Washington. Here, the students live in dorms divided by their awakened Path and courses of magical study and the professors are masters of Fate, Death, Space, and all the other arcana of sorcery. Nestled next to the sleepwalker town of Peregrine Falls, the campus at Cascadia Academy hosts many secrets, from hidden libraries staffed by strange devils to occult laboratories high in the mountain peaks and open to the stars! Spring semester should see students in their stride, learning the spells needed to thrive in a world of darkness, but there are hazards that come with the spring as well. The body of the Student Consilium deliberates on many matters of school policy, and this year's proposed changes might reshape campus life. The Duel Arcane, a sport of the highest magical form, dominates the spring social life, that is until the formal prom dance at the end of the year. With students, near and far, arriving during the early spring after their winter break, Cascadia Academy is ready for another semester of magical mystery, teenaged drama, and whimsical adventure.

Game style

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Jeremiah is an excellent GM. The world felt vivid and magical, the game flow and pacing worked very well. It was an all around wonderful and fun experience. I'm looking forward to the next sessions.

The Dm is extremely patient and will make sure you are included in the game. He does good voices that put you in the world. I never feel like I been railroaded or hurried along. Please hire this Dm if you want epic stories with fun characters. Another good aspect is the clear communication there is. To be good communication is necessary to a great game and the dm has great communication skills.

Funny, charming and paid a great deal of attention to character roleplay, facts that were shared either during character creation or over the course of the game. Whenever there was room for input it was asked to the table, whenever there might be difficult choices mechanically they offered advice, a gamemaster that I would happily invite to a birthday party or out for a cup of coffee.

Jeremiah is absolutely stellar. They put so much into their world building that your PCs have the opportunity to tell an amazing story within it. They don’t trap your characters in a narrow story arc, instead they allow for personal and coterie character growth that enhances any narrative they have planned. I would 10000% recommend Jeremiah to anyone who wants to truly experience the full potential of a TTRPG. Your character is more than their stats, they come alive in Jeremiah’s games. 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Awesome story teller! We did a short campaign to get to know the candela obscura play style. Even though this was his first go at the game, mine too, you wouldn't have really known it, everything went over smoothly.

Ran a short Candela Obscura campaign with newbies to the system, all went well. Very helpful and communicative in both the leadup to sessions as well as in the sessions themselves. Had a lot of fun and enjoyed the campaign

Additional details

How to prepare

You will need a Discord account, a decent microphone, and your copy of Mage: the Awakening. Please read as much of the Mage: the Awakening core book as you are comfortable with (the typography sucks, I know!), but please skip the entire Magic Spells section. Trust me, there's only a small part of that huge section that you actually need at Character Creation (look at the magical tools and spellcasting tips in the chapter for aid). Instead, focus on the Orders, Paths, and other character-directed parts. Some characters will already have magic experience, while others could be brand new to the entire magic world. Join now to discover which one you are!

What I provide

We will run this game over Discord, where I will have channels devoted to NPC and Quest information and player contributions. I will also have a Drive folder with the books and resources we will be using. I will have Video chat enabled so that you can see my face & see me perform some voice acting. During session I will provide a Dice Bot and a Music Bot for convenience and ambience, with bespoke Spotify playlists. I know the rules as written, and can run them smoothly with creative flexibility for all types of Players. Above all, Player Character-directed actions and decision making forms the core of the story in ALL of my games!

Gameplay details

I run inclusive tables where all are welcome, all are equals, and all are respected. Lines & Veils will be addressed via survey before campaign start, and all other Safety Tools will be engaged during Session 0. This is a high-drama, roleplay-heavy campaign for the creative & curious alike. Expect lots of NPCs, lots of hidden schemes, and lots of creative thaumaturgy!

How will character creation work

Character Creation will occur as a group in Session 0. This is mostly to inform the rest of the Players about the type of characters everyone wants to play and how they might fit in well together. These will be "75 XP", advanced-level characters in their late teens who will be starting the spring semester of their 'Junior Year' of high school at this hidden & prestigious magic academy. Please refer only to the core Mage: the Awakening 1st Edition rulebook, which will be shared with the group in a Drive folder.
