About the adventure

Far away from civilized lands, lay a small walled town by the name of Geltar. The vast majority of the rest of the world has been explored ad nauseam, but the continent upon which Geltar lay is unknown. Sure, there are old legends and stories. The outside world of the peaceful town of Geltar is relatively unknown. At a time and age previously, adventurers had gone out into the wilderness to map and to tame the lands beyond. Although many set forth, few returned, and they brought with them fabulous and fantastic things ranging from trophies from monster kills, gold and treasure horded by dragons, and other wondrous things. Where did these things come from? It is hard to say, but whispered rumors say that this land was once the domain of the Lichking, a terrible being of immense power. The Lichking, it is said, and his minions and allies, were defeated by adventurers in a bygone era, and sealed in a tomb with powerful magics, to lock him away so that his evil can never again see the light of day. There are a few maps in town, mostly very old and probably outdated, but may hold clues as to various locations where adventurers had tamed the wilds. Once again, adventurers have come to these lands, to the only spot of civilization in the Marches, Geltar, seeking fortune, glory, and honor. What will you find? How will you fare? Only time will tell. Welcome to the Savage Marches.

About me

Hello, fellow adventurers and dream-weavers! I'm The Daily Dungeon Master, also known as Chex on Discord. With over 27 years of dungeon mastering, I've journeyed through every edition from the nostalgic AD&D to the dynamic realms of 5th edition—and yes, even that notorious 4th edition! I've also run Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, and lots of the 3rd Edition adjacent games (d20 Modern, Future, Apocalypse, etc...). Why choose me as your DM? It's simple: dungeon mastering isn't just a hobby for me; it's a deep-seated passion. Here’s what you can expect when you join one of my tables: -Tailored Adventures: Your play style sets the tone. Love epic battles? Prepare for heart-pounding combat. Adore intricate mysteries? Puzzles and intrigue await. Crave deep character development? Watch your backstory become the backbone of our campaign. -Inclusive World-Building: I strive to create inclusive environments that welcome and celebrate diversity, both in characters and players new and veteran alike. Everyone has a place at my table. -Interactive Sessions: Expect sessions where your choices truly matter. I use dynamic storytelling techniques to make the world react to your decisions, creating a living story where everyone contributes to the narrative’s unfolding. -Community and Connection: I believe in building not just a campaign, but a community. Our adventures are spaces where friendships are forged in the fires of dragon's breath and the quiet moments between battles. Spotlight on a Recent Adventure: In my Sunday Selsuria campaign (an open-world homebrew campaign I wrote and designed myself, originally designed as a West Marches-style campaign but adapted for a single party to play!), a full two-thirds of the party was captured by hobgoblin slavers only for the wizard to escape with crafty use of his remaining spell slots (they were captured mid-long rest), linking up with the uncaptured party members, and performing a daring rescue of the party and others that had previously been captured. Afterwards, while escorting the whole group back to the town, they defeated an encampment of cultists along the way. The cultists worshipped some entity that was not within the known pantheon of deities, and is just known to them as "He Who Whispers in the Dark," an entity worshipped by strange and usually evil creatures throughout the area. Who is this entity? Feel free to join us and find out as we recently had a slot open up due to life events causing a change in schedule for a player (https://startplaying.games/adventure/cm6v1o087000m1ox4k304omf4). Join the Adventure: Are you ready to explore new worlds and test your mettle against formidable foes? I'm looking for heroes like you to bring our next story to life. Message me now to reserve your spot in my upcoming campaigns or to discuss your ideal adventure. Or, join me on Fridays and Thursdays for my “Learn to Play” games (RuneQuest and Call of Cthulhu)! He is great! I have learned a lot about Dnd and enjoy it even more. I was very hesitant about joining an online group but now I love it! Would recommend him to anyone and everyone.

Amazing DM. As a fairly new player of D&D, I experienced sufficient freedom, ample instruction, and proper patience throughout. I could freely Roleplay my character in accordance to their history and character within the session. Thank you for the experience. Would experience it 10/10 again if I could. Can't wait to participate in more games with you as the DM going forward in my D&D future.

This is a fantastic campaign, well planned out and executed in a way that makes you feel as if every choice you make is essential to the plot. Chex really knows how to set a scene.

Character creation
Creating your character

Character creation was done at our session 0. That said, we are still VERY early into the campaign, so you won't be missing much. In these types of campaigns, it is extremely easy to introduce new players/characters. Character creation will be discussed later on. We'll be starting at level 1. Characters will ideally be created on dndbeyond.com, with the use of Beyond20 to enable rolls to appear in Roll20 (or done via Roll20 character sheets). The following things will be tracked: -Ammo -Water -Food -Encumbrance, to include the setting where **coins have weight** The entirety of character creation information, campaign background info, and more is found on a wiki created specifically for the purpose of running this campaign. More on that later. You can play just about any race/class, with the exception of anything in Tal'dorei Reborn. That stuff is just too broken for my tastes. Message me if you have any questions Characters should expect to level up to level 20+ (as into the point of getting 1 or two epic boons), and this will be an experience point based leveling. Characters will be using the 2024 Rules, with "Expanded Rules" enabled and allowed.

The current party

This is a completely homebrew setting in what will amount to what can only be described as a massive sandbox campaign with tons of stuff to do, places to explore, and a rich substory running as an undercurrent/backdrop to everything, which will culminate in world-shaking events that only the heroes can prevent. We are relatively early in, with the party only being level 5 or so. Lots of story and lots of territory to explore!

What to expect
Preparing for the session

You should have the following: 1) dndbeyond account with a character idea (I'm big on playing what you want, not what you think the party needs!) or make a request that I create a character sheet for you in Roll20 2) Firefox or Chrome or other compatible browser with the Beyond20 browser extension turned on (if using D&D Beyond) 3) A Discord account (voice only) 4) A (free) Roll20 account 5) A picture or token for your character All links will be provided upon joining. Also, keep in mind, character creation will look like this: -Abilities will be rolled using two sets of 4d6 - drop the lowest - now do that same thing again so you have 2 separate sets of stats; you may pick from one of those two stat arrays. ---stats are rolled up either with screen sharing turned on in dndbeyond.com or (preferably) in Roll20. -Gear will be standard (do not roll for gold). Also, add 1 regular potion of healing. -Additional character options/backgrounds/etc... will be available, so you will need homebrew turned on so you can get access to them. -A lot of the character creation/campaign info will be found on a wiki created for the exact purpose of this campaign. Characters will be using the 2024 Rules, with "Expanded Rules" enabled and allowed. If there are any other questions about anything I haven't covered, feel free to message me.

What The Daily DM brings to the table

I will provide all professional VTT maps with lighting and light background music (where and when appropriate). Any handouts will be provided via Roll20. I am big on doing voices for characters and NPCs and even some monsters (I've been told my kobold and goblin are particularly funny). Very big on Rule of Cool, and I'm the kind of DM that likes to say "Yes!" as much as possible. Of course, if you cannot get dndbeyond.com to work, I can make a character sheet for you up on Roll20 if that's your jam. About Me: I have been a dungeon master for over 25 years and have DM'd for every addition since first edition AD&D (even the infamous 4th Edition!). I am always known as the forever DM because I rarely play. Why is that? Well, because I really love to DM! It is my passion and, as at least I've been told, because I'm good at it. I love doing adventures of all kinds. I've done pre-published stuff, of which I own everything wizards of the Coast has put out for 5e, I have tons of first and second edition stuff that I convert over to 5e, and I love creating homebrew stuff. I will also cater to your playstyle! Like combat? I'll give you combat. Like puzzles or role play? I'll give them to you! Like your background to be integrated into the story? Done. I have done and will do it all. What I Bring to The Table (both literally and figuratively!) -An professional, fair, and (most of all) fun experience, from an experienced and professional DM -Beautiful and professional maps complete with dynamic lighting and ambient music when appropriate -An exciting narrative story where you, the players, are the center of attention -No large groups! My max is 6 (maybe 7 if you are coming as a group) and my minimum is 3; I tailor the experience to the number of players at the table! -Play what you want, not necessarily what the party "needs," I also tailor the experience based on the player characters! -The campaign information is based on a wiki that was created for the exact purpose of running this campaign. There is a player side (that you'll see!) and a DM side for me. Link will be provided upon joining. I hope to see you soon!

How The Daily DM creates a safe table

I have a total and completely open door policy. If something rubs you wrong, all I ask is that you PM me and we can take a break and you and I can talk whatever issue you're having out. I ask that you give me the chance to fix an issue before dropping if something hits you wrong. That said, this is a brutal wilderness/survival/resource management campaign.
