The Search for the Truth. A level 3-15 Pirate campaign.

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Have you ever wanted to be a pirate on the high seas? Or maybe crave the freedom to explore an expansive map? Well look no longer, for this adventure holds the key to solving that problem. In this campaign we will be: Overthrowing corrupt governments Attacking forts on the high seas Delving into mysterious and dark ruins And last but not least engaging in chaos After the ‘Calamity’, most of the world was destroyed. Except for one place, the central island. This is where you are, and where you are expected to stay for the rest of your life. The government is strict, the conditions are harsh and the work is draining, but that’s all there is right? After all, the government said so and they wouldn’t lie to you. But recently, rumours have been spreading of a whole new world out there, and it’s bliss compared to this. The government is acting more and more suspiciously as the rumour spreads, adding more patrols in the sea, doubling the guards at the port. Dissent is spreading among your family and your entire city, wondering whether to stay or to go. Already people are fleeing the city, in search of a better life, and they have been arrested and disappear entirely. Will you take the risk to be free from tyranny, and search for the truth behind the government? There is a significant amount of roleplay and in character conversations, mixed with exciting combat encounters and challenging puzzles.

I did a one-shot with Crusader, and it was well-designed with a nice mix of puzzles, role-playing, and combat.

New review

Played a one shot with Crusader DMing - thoroughly enjoyed the session. Was a good mixture of combat and puzzles along the way and flowed nicely. Had a relaxed attitude and helped with becoming accustom to new mechanics/applications.

Very good session, I play alongside Crusader in another campaign and he's always really fun to play with, my first time playing in a game he DM'd and it was great - especially for some of our players who were very new to DND. He showed a lot of patience and made sure to explain everything to them, being incredibly helpful. Everyone got their time to shine and act in some way. It was overall very fun and I'd definitely play again!

I played in several games with Crusade as the DM from Jan 2024 to Jan 2025 - the entire year. He was kind, respectful, creative, and open to feedback on improvement from the players in the game. We had a lot of laughs and an excellent player experience. I’d happily play another game with him, only stopping now because my availability changed.

I would say that for me this Gm was kind, was understanding and instructive when it comes to like game mechanics and all when I was just starting DnD out. They allow creativity in combat and situations, we get to play around the campaign for most of the time, have fun, laugh, all of that. The sessions also always hold up to the standards so, would highly recommended.

Additional details

How to prepare

You will not need a webcam, but will be needing a stable microphone and internet connection. You will need to create characters, but I will assist with that as I also like to see how you create your backstory and skills so I can make the best campaign for you. You will need to create a DnD Beyond account and an Alchemy account. If you wish, you can also download the Alchemy application for a smoother experience.

What I provide

As it is online all you need is yourself and something to play on, e.g. a computer. We will communicate using discord. I like to stick with rules as written unless you can make a good argument for your interpretation, but will allow and encourage creativity in application of abilities and spells. I utilise music, both for ambience and combat to raise the tension, and may introduce variables into combat to spice things up a little, whether that's a time limit or additional trials/challenges.

Gameplay details

In session 0 we go over my dming style, what your wants are for the particular campaign and also your characters and how they fit in with the world. We will do a few combat encounters and also a few roleplaying and non-combat encounters. Overall, I like to do a mix of role-play and combat, and depending on the players wishes will do more of either.

How will character creation work

We will use DnD beyond to create characters for the proper campaign, however I have premade characters for session 0 if they are necessary. You will be expected to have your character sheet up each session to save time when looking for stats. Ideally the character should fit in with the campaign, and I don’t mind if your background is quite sad or extreme, as long as it fits. Also, in order to tailor the encounters and fights I will need to see your character sheets before session 1, ideally 2-3 days in advance.
