M.A.G.I.C.|Magical Afterschool GuardIan Club

Kids on Brooms, Homebrew Game | Campaign

About the adventure

Hopping through a magic portal to defend the multiverse from crazy inter-dimensional threats that want to take over your planet sounds tough, right? Somehow not as tough as the detention you land and the earful from your parents you get for cutting class to save the world! Welcome to the Magical Afterschool GuardIan Club, a long line of teens with attitude chosen to protect the world from evil with badass magical powers. Journey across the multiverse and make sure everyone knows not to mess with M.A.G.I.C.! Student by day, kickass inter-dimensional magical warrior in the afternoon, and home in time to be grounded by night! Based on weird and charming french cartoons of the late 00s like W.I.T.C.H., Code Lyoko and Totally Spies, M.A.G.I.C. runs on a base engine of Kids on Brooms, modded with aspects of other systems like EMBERWIND, Slugblaster and Never Stop Blowing Up/Making Magic to deliver a recreation of the narrative heavy, teenage angst filled, magical dramas of the era. M.A.GI.C. is intended to be a narrative heavy game, that in addition to playing out the part of magic protectors of worlds, also looks to delve into the nature of such a duty, and the stress of secrets and the burden of responsibility and how it it managed among peers, friends, family, and the self. If you've ever watched a cartoon about a group of hip youth saving the world, and not a single person wonders where they always run off to, this is the game for you.

Game style

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Recruiting notes

If the listed date/time is not doable for players looking to join, there may be some flexibility in scheduling. As of now there are 2 potential alternate game times: Thursday @ 7 PM EST Friday @ 2 PM EST

What I provide

First and foremost I provide a free 3-part introductory system when onboarding players. First, a 1on1 Interview/Session 0, to get a read on a player and if all goes well, an invitation to the game. Second a group Session 0.5 where we can all meet on the planned game day(set to take place weekly), get a feel for each other and go through character creation and parts of world development will occur. Third is our Session 1, the first game! All three without any charge, so we all feel good about gaming together before a transaction occurs. Because KoB is a rules-lite system and this is a narrative heavy-game, a focus towards collaborating with my players to deliver an unforgettable story driven experience is going to be at the forefront of this game. Being a now grown adult improv theater kid (derogatory), I easily fill in the skeletons of the worlds I create on my feet and in real time. This also means I have a shamelessness to me where I will give my best at character voices and accents. As mentioned, I also like to have my players take part in building pieces of the world close to their characters, and will use these parts as much as I can to get my players invested in our shared story. VTT spaces are used to provide a space for players to use digital dice if they prefer, as well as using the soundscape and help depict my storytelling with visual backdrops. This game is anticipated to run in "Seasons" about 12 sessions per Season, to give a good place for breaks in the narrative of the game should it be needed for whatever reason. Seasons will be spaced by a week long hiatus before resuming at the planned game time.
