Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Adventurers far and wide travel across Faerun to the City of Splendors, where they can take a seat at the infamous Yawning Portal, have a chat with the proprietor Durnan or listen to Mattrim the Bard's latest gossip filled set, and stare down into the depths of Undermountain; some even venture into the darkness at the fee of 1gp per adventurer. However, you won't be plunging into the depths of the Dungeon of the Mad Mage. No, no! You will be the adventurers that Mattrim sings of, that Durnan chuckles about while polishing glasses! You'll become the quest-takers and adventurers that become Tales from the Yawning Portal. This popular module brings 7 various adventures from the history of Dungeons and Dragons into bite-sized, thrilling pieces; with it being a play by post, text and chat based campaign, you're able to reply at your own leisure, using a variety of bots to enhance the experience.

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Dungeon Crawl

A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Play By Post

Play By Post refers to a game in which players interact with the story through messages and text posts. These games are typically played asynchronously throughout the week, which gives players time to consider what they want to do next, and engage with the story at their own pace.

Recruiting notes

The Sunless Citadel is a Level 1-3 adventure, with all open source material available; however we'll be using original 5e rules vs the 2024 edition. I encourage elaboration and descriptions, and also like to run a developmental channel to discuss characters in. You'll get to meet fun NPCs and earn some treasure, with the potential for game continuation!

urv is always fair and open for input when it comes to their games. a joy to discuss ideas with and a giving collaborator. you can easily tell that even though they charge for their services, they are in it for the love of the game. speaking of money, they are always flexible with pay schedules, financial hardships, or other hindrances. all good vibes here.

Urvy has a very disarming personality that helped me feel at home right away. It was very easy for me to get into a good comradery with my fellow players. Urvy is also great at descriptions of rooms and coming up with fun encounters that are not always violent but let the players use their skills and magic in a bunch of useful ways!

After a single one-shot with them, they leave you with such a fun and enjoyable experience you'll definitely want to play more games with them! An absolute joy to have as a Game Master if you're looking for very engaging and memorable experiences.

Fantastic storyteller who adjusts with the players! This was the first time I played Monster of the Week and Urvy was very helpful and patient in explaining the rules and the general flow of play. Had a fantastic time!

I love how inclusive and creative Urvy is. They are amazing to play with. No idea is necessarily off the table but, may need some tweaks to meet certain criteria. If I could select all the tags I would. They're great to play with regardless of experience with a game.

Kept the pace of the game moving. Great GM!

How to prepare

Players should have a general idea of their character ready when coming to Session Zero, as well as a general understanding of the rules (which is mostly be cool and respectful to your fellow storytellers and don't get frustrated as we go through the all the steps in combat). When it comes to character sheets, before the first session, I would like a PDF copy of it, but it isn't 100% necessary. The games will be held online via Discord in a private channel, with the ability to react, read, and roll. You'll be able to post pictures and pop into a voice chat whenever if wanted. You can use virtual or real dice! A part of D&D to me is trust, so roll how you like, but remember none of us are gods.

What I provide

I will bring the module, art here and there, a discord full of fun and organization, and I hope that I will bring the absolute hype that you want at the table!

Gameplay details

To preface: I have a pretty open door policy and want to work with everyone; I am comfortable adapting and evolving to do what need be to make this virtual table a safe space for any and everyone. During Session Zero, I like to discuss the team-- both in character and out of character. It is preferred that you have an idea of a character when you come to the table. There we can talk about what we all are wanting to get out of this game, our motivations for playing. Here is when I like to discuss potentially triggering topics and determine what safety tools players would like to use. When it comes to X/N/O Cards, I like to use emojis in private DMs, just by the way! I always want to prioritize mental and emotional health and well-being and will discuss with players when they need character broken. When it comes to safety and comfort, these discussions can be had at any time.

How will character creation work

When coming to Session Zero, I ask that you at least have a general character idea in my mind, some sorta picture in your brain of what you'd like to play, because altogether as a party we can work together to make that image come alive. Sometimes it's nice to build characters together, because it allows for cohesion discussions! Character level will depend on which adventure from the module is being ran at that point in time, which will be listed during session postings.
