The World of Gaian

The World of Gaian

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Gaian is a world strongly connected to the flows of magic that is constantly undergoing change. The world is plagued by arcane fires that ravage the surface every two-thousand years, completely destroying everything in their path. To save themselves, the races of the surface flee into the depths of Gaian, waiting for a time when they can re-emerge and rebuild their fallen empires. This destruction has created time periods known as cycles in which great civilizations rise and fall. Perhaps one day a hero will put a stop to these cataclysms, saving Gaian from these devastating cycles of destruction. The World of Gain is a deep, rich setting that's about 20 years old (real time). As such, it has a long history spanning thousands of years with the rise and fall of many civilizations whose ruins can still be found deep underground or in abandoned areas of the world. Players will not only adventure within the world, but their decisions may shape society for decades to come. This world contains several full-flushed out campaigns that have been developed over a literal decade of playtime. The world also contains a plethora of interesting places and characters ready to be discovered along with friends and fellow adventurers. Enter the world of Gaian, a dangerous world where your decisions will affect and shape humanoids and societies for cycles to come! The listings are for the general times I run games; the games themselves vary depending on what campaign I'm running during that timeslot. Campaigns can shift and change due to player choices as the story unfolds. To find out which timeslot is doing what campaign, refer to the information on my world discord. I have been playing with Lou on and off for about 4 years now and it has always been a pleasure. Lou is able to drive the story and engage players unlike anyone else. You can also always count on him knowing the rules for fair and consistent ruling. World of Gaian where his games usually take place is very well developed with rich and unique history that is always interesting to explore. Also games are never a cakewalk, combats are challenging and victories feel rewarding. Overall 10/10 DM, highly recommended.

Been playing with DM Raven for a while now and its my favorite and longest running campaign to date. The world and story he has crafted is extraordinary and going through it with my party has been an absolute blast filled with both epic and hilarious moments. 10/10 would recommend!!

I've been playing with Raven for 5ish years. He's a strong story teller and does an excellent job of bringing people of different backgrounds together. He understands how to guide folks through sharing the spotlight and makes sure everyone feels engaged in the campaign. A really great balance of exploration, combat, NPC interaction, and some puzzles. A great unique world that is both challenging and very engaging. I fully recommend checking out Raven and his World of Gaian.

I’ve been playing D&D with DM Raven for years now, and I can honestly say he’s one of the best Dungeon Masters I’ve ever had the pleasure of gaming with. His balanced style makes every session feel relaxed and fun, while still keeping things on track with the core Dungeons & Dragons rules, no crazy homebrew chaos here, just solid gameplay. What really sets him apart, though, is the incredible custom content he brings to the table. The maps, the lore, the sprawling world he’s built, it’s all so detailed and immersive that you can’t help but get sucked in. Beyond the games themselves, DM Raven’s Discord community has been a game changer for me. I’ve met some amazing people there and forged friendships that have lasted well beyond the campaigns. Whether it’s jumping into one of his fresh campaigns or diving deep into an ongoing saga, there’s always something exciting happening in his world. If you’re looking for a DM who knows how to balance fun, structure, and creativity, Raven’s your guy! Highly recommended!

I've played in DM Raven's games since Spring 2020. His homebrew world of Gaian is well-developed and his sandbox-style allows players and parties to make unexpected decisions and experience the consequences thereof. His stories are interesting and his rulings are balanced.

What I provide

My games use Roll20 and hundreds of custom maps that are used for both combat and exploration. I bring thirty years of GM experience to the table along with twenty years of experience in video games and game design. In addition, my games have custom artwork, ambient music, and a discord community full of friendly and enthusiastic players eager to engage!

Gameplay details

When designing my world, I try to create believable situations and scenarios that would exist in this type of world. Therefore, I use mature themes to tell a story which the players can really be a part of. This often leads to their beliefs being tested and where moral grey areas can creep in (that they will have to wrestle with). I try to just present situations as how they are and not really comment on them other than the outcomes of said situations and how they effect people (humanoids) and their lives/happiness within the game world. It's up to each player to decide what type of humanoid their character is and how they are going react to the various situations within the story.

How will character creation work

Character creation generally happens before the first session or session zero in the event of a fresh campaign. Character creation rules are as follows: Allowed Content --------------------- Any published WOTC book other than Explorer's Guide to Wildemont, no homebrew content. Character Creation Rules ------------------------------ Unless otherwise stated, ability scores are determined through the point-buy system. If you have any questions on how this system works, just ask myself or one of the other players. For character HP, take your character’s max HP (max dice) + con modifier for first level. For each level after that, take the average of the HP dice (rounded up) and add con modifier. For example, a second level barbarian with 14 con would have 23 hp. (First Level: 12+2=14, second level: 7+2=9, Total: 14+9=23) For class and race selection, I’m only allowing material officially published in WOTC books as I’ve found it to be mostly balanced and easiest to incorporate into my game world. That’s not to say I’m completely against character-generated content. But that’s something I’d rather be explored in-game. Be warned that many exotic races are not common within the empire. This may lead to more challenging social interactions as well as reactions ranging from distrust to outright hostility depending on what part of the empire you’re in. That’s not to say you can’t earn the respect and trust of the people over time, but it’s a more challenging path to walk. For characters level 5 or over, you get an extra 100 gp you can use to buy gear. (This represents your character completing successful ventures in their career.) For characters level 8 or over, you gain one magic item (common or uncommon) if you don't already have one. (Again this represents some success your character has had in their career.) -------------- In terms of background, the most important question to answer is how the character is going to be introduced into the story. Make sure you talk to your GM about how you'd like your character to be introduced. (This will depend on what's currently happening in the game.) The second most important question to ask is if/why this character will want to stay with the group. When designing a character personality, keep in mind that the character should have a reason to stay with the group after the initial encounter. If your character is a loner that hates others, then they probably won't do well within the group. Try to design character personalities that will mesh well in a group situation. The story of your character is important, but not something you need to know right away. While some design intricate backstories from the start, others enjoy developing character backstory as they play. Once created, the group will discuss characters to figure out how everyone fits into the story together.
