About the adventure

Naria. A land of secrets and lost civilizations. The world has been struck again and again by calamity over thousands of years, leaving civilization to start anew repeatedly. Today, stories of the Ancients are prevalent throughout the land, their secrets stored under the earth in ancient Crypts filled with technology and magics lost to time. As a denizen of this world, you've heard rumors about the Ancients your entire life. Stories of their flying machines, their instant communication across vast distances, and even rumors that they once reached the stars. The last calamity, the Falling Stars Event, ripped this world apart over a thousand years ago, and now that society has been rebuilt again, you stand amongst the different races and peoples of Naria as one of the few who will ever learn the truths about the Ancients... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This story will be focused on your characters and their stories, rather than any premade adventure or campaign. I will be developing a story based on the backgrounds you develop for your characters, as well as discussing with you how you would like your characters story to go throughout the course of the adventure.

Recruiting notes

I'm afraid I have no idea how this campaign will go. That's because it's entirely up to your characters and their stories. That's right, this story has nothing to do with a premade adventure or prewritten big bad villain. Instead, I will be crafting an adventure that focuses on your character and their background, as well as their future.

Additional details

How to prepare

You will need a microphone, but no webcam. You'll need to have a decent internet connection to use Foundry VTT, but besides Discord, you won't need to have any applications installed to join this game. You will need to create your character yourself, but I'm available to help with any issues or questions you might have.

What I provide

I will be using Discord for the voice chat and Foundry VTT for the virtual tabletop system. I like to do accents for my NPC's, but I apologize for butchering any of them, or forgetting to do them sometimes. I use ambient music and combat music, I will use Rule of Cool often, but Rules as Written is preferred for fairness to the players. My GM style is meant to invoke emotions and empathy in the game. I want my players to feel things, good things, bad things, etc. If you come out of my campaign angry at an NPC, I'm happy. If you come out angry at me or another player, please tell me and I'll do everything within my power to resolve the situation.

Gameplay details

This adventure is occasionally dark, but usually quite lighthearted. I prefer my players to not always be comfortable with what's happening in the story, because sometimes things aren't meant to be comfortable. People get hurt, people are cruel, people die in horrible ways, and these are facts of life, but I want the players to understand that I'm not trying to normalize or make these things okay, I'm trying to give the players a realistic, deep story where they can make a difference in the world in a positive way. Session zero will involve everyone getting to know each other and developing their characters. There will be at least 1-2 breaks per session depending on length, and my door is always open. I'm happy to mediate any problems that may come up, and willing to make any changes to the game to accommodate any issues my players might have. Session 0 will be free.

How will character creation work

Character creation will involve using any of the core source books of D&D 5e to build your character. I'm open to homebrewing some things, but I prefer everyone to start on even footing at the beginning of the game, and the Rules as Written have a good balance that can keep everyone from feeling like they're being overshadowed by an OP character. A free session 0 will be for character creation questions, but I'm also available almost any time to chat about other character creation questions you might have.
