A Tournament in Tatters - An Unsuccessful Triwizard Tournament
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
It’s 1925, and the wizarding world is still reeling from the chaos of the Great War. Amid strained alliances and shadowy politics, three prominent European wizarding schools—Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang—have attempted to resurrect the legendary Triwizard Tournament. Billed as a symbol of unity and camaraderie, the event quickly spirals into chaos as strange accidents, dark magic, and ancient grudges threaten to upend the games before they even begin. Despite growing concerns, the newly elected (and prideful) Minister of Magic, Hector Fawley, refuses to cancel the tournament. Our heroes, the unlucky students chosen to compete and their close friends, must navigate the dangers of this doomed competition. Every task seems designed to send you straight to St. Mungo’s—or worse—but eternal glory awaits for those who can persevere. Meanwhile, there are classes to attend, exams to pass, magical beasts to care for, and all of Hogwarts to explore. Who said school life wasn’t exciting? This game blends themes of mystery, competition, and dark magic with rich, lore-driven storytelling. Players can expect a mix of high-stakes combat, intricate puzzles, and meaningful roleplay, all set in the familiar and magical world of Harry Potter. The setting offers a unique twist, drawing on the early 20th-century wizarding world to incorporate themes of magical innovation and historical tension. No extensive knowledge of the wizarding world is needed—just bring your imagination and a willingness to dive into the adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned RPG veteran or a first-time player, this campaign welcomes all skill levels. The game prioritizes inclusivity, collaboration, and player-driven storytelling. During Session 0 (which will be free), we’ll discuss lines, veils, and boundaries to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone. LGBTQ+ players are especially welcome, as your DM is proudly part of the community. This campaign uses the "Wands and Wizards" Harry Potter 5e adaptation—get ready to cast your spells, roll your dice, and uncover the secrets lurking within the Triwizard Tournament.

How to prepare
Basic knowledge of the homebrew system is reccomended, but we'll figure most of that out through character creation and I will be there, with knowledge of the rules, to help you along the way and it is essentially just Dungeons and Dragons 5e with a little extra spice. Don't stress about the rules, that'll come with time. Audio is a must for playing and we'll be playing over discord in a private discord so you'll have a space to chat and such as well. Video is not mandatory so you don't need to have that.
What I provide
My DM style for this campaign will be very theatre of the mind because we will be using the "Wands and Wizards" Harry Potter 5e adaptation, which is free and open access. We will play on discord, audio is a must and video is encouraged (though not necessary!). I will consistently be sending art to assist with this though as well as roleplaying and doing my best with character voices (this is a skill I am working on, so I will really appreciated your feedback on it!). I like to have ambient music, and playing on discord means that if you don't, you can very easily mute it, so it is optional. Here is a general outline of my DM style: 1. Combat: Combat will be intense. Expect challenging opponents and consequences to your actions in combat. Expect there to be two to three combats per session, in a three hour session, combat tends to take up 45 minutes to just over an hour of the session. This can be adjusted for players preferences. 2. Roleplay: Roleplay is huge to me and for me the goal is that I can get you to love it as much as I do. We have this wonderful atmospheric world to explore and you'll be able to roleplay out classes, exams, encountering magical beats, tournament events, all of these types of things. 3. Puzzles: To me, there has to be some puzzles in dnd, they're just too fun to skip one. Usually, expect at least one puzzle per session, though there might be certain sessions where there's quite a few of them. 4. Character Development: I want to see your characters develop through this story. This means I want to work with you to ensure your backstory is encorporated and that you can have an arc which, along with the other characters, leads to a fulfilling ending for your character at the end of the campaign. I'm always happy to chat more about my DMing style, so feel free to reach out!
Gameplay details
In Session 0 we will go over veils and lines, and, furthermore, I will send out a private survey where you can tell me your thoughts privately as well. During sessions we'll use an X, N, O or traffic light system (whichever you all prefer) to indicate how things are going. At any time, any players can call a break (even if you just need one minute) and there will be at least one (most likely 2) scheduled breaks per session. At the end of the sessions we will have a brief debrief where I want to hear yours thoughts on how things went and after every 2-3 sessions I will send out a survey on stars and wishes or we can discuss them during our debriefs (whichever makes you feel more comfortable, this is something we'll also discuss in session 0). My philosophy is that it can't be good dnd if we aren't all safe and having fun.
