About the adventure
The ageless and enigmatic Lady of Pain, eternal overseer of Sigil, summons all Ascendant Faction leaders to an urgent and private conclave. But when one Factol fails to appear, she commands the characters to investigate—only for them to uncover what seems to be a grisly murder. Before the conclave can recover, another Factol vanishes under mysterious circumstances. Entrusted by the Lady herself, the party must unravel the truth behind the apparent murder, locate the missing leader, and uncover whether the other faction heads are in similar danger. Their quest will lead them through the tangled streets of Sigil, the Outlands, and into other planes of existence. Time is ticking away, do you have what it takes to stop the Factol Countdown? This adventure starts at level 3, and will be a multiverse spanning murder mystery. Roleplay forward, with a good mix of combat, exploration, and mystery to solve.

About me
Hello my friends! I am Uncle Casey, the storyteller for what I hope is your next adventure. I do my best to run a welcoming, safe, and accessible table; I believe creating felt safety encourages deeper, more enjoyable game experiences. To that end, I require my players to be open and affirming of everyone’s right to exist and be who they are without judgement. For characters I don’t limit species, and players are free to make their characters as self-representative (or not) as they choose. I have resources available (Unlimited Heroics, Combat Wheelchair, etc.) that can serve as a guide for any non-core mechanics you’d like to integrate. I want you to feel free to be you. Or be someone completely different. It’s your game. Me, a Brief History: (Reading optional) I started playing TTRPG's during junior high and high school, back in the 80's and early 90's. I joined a friend's D&D game, then started DMing for my friends. We tried out Talislanta, Rifts, Cyberpunk, Vampire, Aliens, Robotech and a few I've probably forgotten. Then life happened. I eventually earned a degree in theatre and a certification in stage combat choreography, I caught an arrow to my knee (got married), did community, amateur and professional theatre, adopted our children, left theatre to work with foster and adoptive families, that turned I into educating families about trauma and it's effects on our brains and bodies. I started playing D&D again in 2015 with 5e - my dice were literally older than the other players at the table. (side-note: I am a notorious dice goblin). It wasn't long until I started DMing again, both in-person and online. I've met some amazing people from around the world playing D&D online, as well as my fair share of cautionary tales. My strengths as a DM - I'm open and caring and belive in self-agency for players and characters. I'm big into backstories and love integrating them into campaigns. I'm always down to work with players, embellishing and expanding their character histories. Do you want a convoluted, world-shaking secret from your past threaten to rip apart the very fabric of reality? I'm in. Of course less dramatic backstories are welcome as well - some players like to focus on what's ahead of them, rather than what's in the past. I am flexible. I create as much of an open-world environment as possible, encouraging player agency and choice. I'm good at rolling with a sudden shift in party objectives. I encourage players, especially experienced players, to immerse themselves in their characters' moment, know what they know, and experience the game with fresh eyes. Yes, you probably are steeped in game lore and monster stats, and how refreshing would it be to just lose yourself in the moment and forget the meta-knowledge in the moment?

Creating your character
Character Creation will take place on DndBeyond, within the DndBeyond campaign (once you've joined the game, I will send the campaign link) , and can begin prior to our free Session 0. Starting level is 3, no restrictions on published species, classes, subclasses, or backgrounds. (1 proviso - no taking 1 level of Rogue just to get sneak attack) Homebrew will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Multiclassing has to be motivated by character backstory and is only available once reaching level 5.
The Factol Countdown will take players through Sigil, down into the Outlands, and to several other planes of existence. No experience is required, and familiarity with the setting isn't necessary. Character creations will use Dndbeyond's character builder using Rolling for stats (2 sets of rolls, each needs to add up to at least 72 points, which is what standard array equals, and is around the average of point buy).
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be using Discord for communications including game play voice/ video channel (video is optional). Roll 20 will be used for maps, and DndBeyond will be used for Characters, Encounters, Dice rolling, and the game log.
What Storytime with Uncle Casey brings to the table
I currently have access to all published 5e materials on DndBeyond, so all possible character creation options will be available to you. I will also be hosting the game on my Discord Server which will be where I will provide any in-game handouts, maps, etc. We will be using Roll20 for tokens and maps. You'll need to have accounts for all three of those entities, free accounts are fine.

Safety
How Storytime with Uncle Casey creates a safe table
A pre-session 0 player safety and preference survey will be sent. Results will be complied and discussed during Session 0. I use a number of safety tools during sessions to ensure everyone is comfortable during the game. I also strive to ensure that everyone feels seen, heard, and valued during sessions. I encourage cooperative problem solving, valuing the person over the player.
