About the adventure

💵 Cash and Prizes 🧙🏽‍♂️ Mad Wizards 🏰 23 Dynamic Dungeon Levels 🦸‍♂️ Play to Level 20 Welcome to the hit interdimensional Game Show of the Mad Mage! You have been chosen by Halaster to descend into the depths of Undermountain to compete against the Mad Mage of Waterdeep himself. Become a star and defy death in this harrowing, 23 level dungeon underneath the streets of the fabled city of Waterdeep. This will be a long dungeon crawl, incorporating the Mad Mage Companion from DMs Guild, but there will be opportunities for roleplaying as well. The Game Show of the Mad Mage evokes the mood of old-school D&D with all the bells and whistles you have come to associate with 5th Edition. The denizens of Undermountain are not static creatures. They vie with each other for power and seek to use the surface dwellers as pawns or slaves in their greater games. Use diplomacy and your wits to overcome encounters while seeking fame and fortune. Halaster is always changing the makeup of Undermountain, and everything you do will ripple through the dungeon. Characters are expected to become truly heroic through the trials in Undermountain, thus the campaign will take you from level 5 to level 20. Bring your favorite PC to life and see them through all tiers of play as they become one of the mightiest heroes in Faerun. Sign up and get the dungeon crawl of a lifetime. As Halaster heckles you endlessly, and you forge alliances and make enemies in this epic dungeon, you will advance, level by level to the ultimate showdown. Battle Halaster and take home the prize waiting at the end of the game show! Are you heroic enough to prevail? Come play with me as I take you on an excellent adventure, in the most dangerous dungeon in all of Faerun. Tame the depths of Undermountain, and best the Mad Mage Halaster at his own game show in this epic campaign. See you Friday!

Additional details

How to prepare

Have a means to voice chat via discord. Cameras/webcams are optional. Have a means of accessing Roll20. Unfortunately, Roll20 does not work on mobile, so you will need a tablet (I know, it's still mobile) or a computer of some sort to access it. My compendium will be shared with the game, so if I own it, you have access to it. We are using Discord for voice. I will be using video most of the time but video for players is optional. Here is the link to the main discord page if you do not have a discord account: https://discord.com/.

What I provide

I will bring the adventures and 43 years of DMing experience. I also have an ever-expanding library of Roll20 content. At this time, that library consists of: PHB, DMG, MM, TCoE, XGtE, MMotM, SCAG, EGtW. I have animated spell effects for Roll20. Lastly, I will bring the Roll20 version of Dungeon of the Mad Mage with dynamic lighting including custom maps!

Gameplay details

I adhere to RAW 90% of the time, with exceptions discussed openly, and given a 5 minute debate timer before implication. Any deviation from RAW applies to NPCs as well as PCs. I play cooperatively, and am not an antagonistic DM. I want my players to win, but I want that win to be well-deserved. I do not allow PvP at my table, including skill contests, without the full consent of all parties involved. For safety tools, I am using an RPG consent checklist, safety cards, and lines and veils. My lines are as follows: No sexual assault, no PVP, no child abuse, fade-to-black for explicit scenes, no non-necessary gore descriptions. Other lines and veils may develop as the game progresses, and players lines and veils can be added to this list. I intend to use set breaks during the game, and we always have a debriefing and a stars and wishes section where we discuss what we liked and what we want out of the game.

How will character creation work

Characters can be imported into Roll20 or created at session 0. If you do not know how to create a character, we can undergo the process together and I'll guide you through it. I have a number of supplements, but if I do not have what you need to make your character, we can see how close we can get if you cannot import said character via Roll20. All characters will start at 5th level unless we opt to play through Dragon Heist. I have the following sourcebooks: Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, and Monsters of the Multiverse. If there is something you want to use that is in a published resource by WotC, I am open to finding a way to allow you to use it, whether we have to customize a character, or it is just an asset I can add. At this time I am not allowing homebrew or alternative publishers as sources for character creation. All characters will be built on standard array and will start at level 5. Characters can be made at session 0 or imported into Roll20 via the character vault. Characters will start with 1500 gold to purchase items with items available listed below. HP for level gain will be average hit points. All characters start with their standard starting equipment and a pack of their choice. Consumable Purchases ✤ Healing - 50gp /// Greater Healing- 100gp /// Superior Healing - 500gp /// Supreme Healing - 1000gp ✤ Climbing - 75gp /// Animal Friendship - 100gp /// Water Breathing - 100gp /// Invisibility - 5000gp ✤ Cantrip - 25gp /// 1st - 75gp /// 2nd - 150gp /// 3rd - 300gp /// 4th - 500gp /// 5th - 1000gp
