Frozen Sick: A Critical Role Setting Campaign

Frozen Sick: A Critical Role Setting Campaign

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

As you gather for the burial of an old friend, you learn that people are mysteriously dying in Palebank Village and, if you cannot find a cure, you may be next. Brave the bitter cold of the northern wastes to figure out the cause and cure for the ailment which has been affecting many of the villagers. 🧑🏽‍🤝‍🧑🏽 Join with others having a similar interest and trace the last steps of your deceased friend. 🕵️ Learn what he may have been in contact with to spread the illness. 🔎 Trace down the whereabouts of the suspicious objects. ⛵ Set sail to find the origin of the items and a possible cure. 👩🏽‍⚕️ Bring back the cure and you will be the heroes of the village! Background: Urgon Wenth, a dwarf explorer, recently returned home to Palebank Village after exploring the icy wastes of Eiselcross for a year. The dwarf brought home several items plundered from ruins on Foren, the largest of Eiselcross’s islands a short 4 to 8 session beginning campaign which will bring characters from level 1 to level 3. Location is in the northern wastes of the Critical Role setting of Wildemount. This is designed to bring new players into the game and features role play, investigation, exploration, and combat. I use colorful maps for encounters, exploration, and combat. Ambient music helps to set the tone of action. Handouts for people, creatures, items, and locations assist in immersion and your enjoyment of the game. Additionally, I prepare post-session notes just before each of the sessions to help refresh your accomplishments and highlight character actions. We will be using 5e 2014 rules for this campaign and my expansive compendium is available for you to create your character. I will assist in placing your character in the setting and flesh out your backstory and connection to the deceased dwarf. Game will be played on Roll20, voice and messaging over a dedicated Discord server. I am an experienced game master who will help the party create the story and become the heroes they were destined to be. Along the way, the world will react to your character’s actions and interactions with the people in and around Palebank Village and beyond.

Recruiting notes

This is a learn to play campaign which is aimed at helping newer players understand the rules and flow of Dungeons and Dragons. We will be using the 2014 rules. I may also add separate one-shots if some of the party will not be available for the regular session which will allow you to stretch your DnD legs with a different character build.

I am going to be in my second campaign with DM Og and its been very fun. He is very patient and so helpful in both navigating roll20, game play and just overall questions and things that might come up. I have been blessed to play with such a great bunch of folks in my first adventure and can't wait to start this next campaign adventure. DM Og is a wonderful storyteller and does all to immerse all players at his table into the adventure. He lets you try cool fun battle tactics , engage in shenanigans , and gives you time to do rp too. I think he is a wonderful DM so if you are looking, look no further, sign up and join in on the fun times. - Dax

It's hard to bring a virtual table of strangers together in the first session of a campaign, but Oginme did that very well. Much of that is because he's very organized—something that really should be a tag here on StartPlaying—and made sure that we got all the necessary work done in session 0. Then in the first session, he kept the story moving without making it feel rushed, and he demonstrated real skill with voices and NPC characterization. Quite a good experience, and I'm looking forward to this being one of my weekly games.

I loved the campaign. It was fun, allowed me being creative and fully enjoy the immersive experience. Master made the world very vivid and alive. Without a doubt would recommend the master to anyone and am looking forward to playing with him again.

Had Oginme for my first campaign. He did a great job implementing our character's stories in the game and keeping us hanging and waiting for the next session. While we were at some tite spot over the joyrney, he made it fun and made sure we have enough participants, with different personalities. Will certainly look to play with him again.

As new player to VTTP & not having played in 32yrs. He has made me feel comfortable from the word go. He has been patient & very helpful at every turn. I look forward all week to our game. The weekly price is worth every cent. I hope to play another campaign with him once this one ends.

How to prepare

What I provide

What you can expect: Maps, dice rolls, character sheets, and handouts will be on Roll20. Voice and music/ambient sounds will be over Discord. There is a dedicated discord channel for the game which will include areas for out of session role play, general session notes, lore and setting knowledge, and announcements. I will supply custom maps for most encounters and settings. The move to a map is not a sign that things will devolve into combat. Instead, there will be things on the map for you to take note of and use to your advantage. These maps are also more immersive with detail and color to make things interesting and show terrain and objects with which you can interact or use. I do create a written summary of each session on both the Roll20 game forum and on Discord for your personal enjoyment and/or review. Within the game, I will provide quality of life macros and mods to help smooth out game play. I assemble a soundtrack for each session to help with immersion and mood for the settings. You will find plenty of handouts to help with visualization and your reference further on in the campaign. I also supply a variety of tokens for NPCs and adversaries which assist with identification during encounters. Along with that, my NPCs are my characters in the game. Important NPCs have their own values, goals and objectives and will usually act with their own self-interest in mind. Do not expect creatures to fight to the last, nor will they purposefully try to exterminate you without cause. Most will attempt to flee when over matched and will not pursue characters who flee if it goes against their objectives or nature.

Gameplay details

We will have a discussion of the campaign at our Session 0. Discussion will include a review of content warnings, discussion of lines and veils which will guide our behavior and topics during the sessions. Session 0 will also contain character creation, where I will be available to assist with answering questions and concerns about your character choices. During the sessions, X, N, O cards will be available in case any actions, situations, or comments cause discomfort and can be used to stop play to discuss the concerns at the table and find a way forward to avoid uncomfortable topics or situations. Following the session, I am available to discuss the session activity and give you a chance to voice those aspects which were exciting and fun, as well as those we should avoid in the future. There is a channel in the Discord server dedicated to stars and wishes which will allow you to call out exemplary actions by other players and allow you to ask for situations or items you would like to see in future games. As a rule, I am available most times during the week to discuss any issue you may have privately so I can address concerns before they become problems.

How will character creation work

Characters will be created using a custom standard array. We will be using Roll20 for our character sheets. Prior to our session 0, you have access to my compendium on Roll20 to check on options for your character species and class. I am always happy to help with answering any questions as you design your character and develop their back story of how they learned their craft and what motivates them to pursue a life of adventuring. Character species and class choices which are not contained in my compendium are not available for this campaign. This campaign will start at level 1 and progress to level 3.
