About the adventure
Painting is Sadko, by Ilya Repin. An introductory one shot for Runequest, roughly 4 hours in length. This mini adventure will see a party of adventurers tracking down a dead goddess, to revive her and save the town that she was once the patron of. The party will venture deep into the underworld, and each will be called upon to channel the powers of their god in defeating the fell demons and beasts that live there, whether by diplomacy, trickery, or the blade. If you've never heard of Runequest before, it's a game heavily steeped in themes of mythology and religion, where the gods are real and titans walk the earth. Magic is a part of the world as innate as gravity, and is an every day reality of life. To simulate this world, Runequest uses a D100 percentile system, personality matrix-like runic affinities, and some incredibly brutal combat rules. If you have heard of Runequest, you may have heard that it has its roots as one of the first TTRPGs ever published, and that many of those original roots are still present in the modern edition, for better and for worse. Both the complexity of the rules, and the breadth of lore that surrounds Runequest and its setting, can be incredibly daunting. Teaching the game can also be a daunting task, but with many years spent introducing it to newcomers at conventions, I am well aware of exactly what sharp edges need to be rounded off, and what parts need to be emphasized to ease the teaching process. My emphasis will be on the themes that make it so great, and the mechanics that tie so perfectly into those themes, not so much the minutiae of the rules.

How to prepare
Accounts needed: -Roll20 - https://roll20.net/ -Discord - https://discord.com/ Devices needed: -Microphone -Mouse for interacting with the Roll20 map -Keyboard for typing dice rolls Thoughts needed: -A rough idea of which of the pre generated characters you would like to play -An excitement for mythological themes
What I provide
The game will be played mostly theater of the mind, only using a VTT when we enter a combat in which positioning plays a large part. I enjoy using ambient music as a part of my games, so will be including that, however I will not be hurt at all if you choose to mute that music for whatever reason. My main focus in my games is on the story we are telling, and so I will often tweak things slightly to produce maximum drama and impact. Crunchy tactical combat is not my thing, and strict adherence to the rules is not an approach I have ever taken in any of my games.
Gameplay details
A Monte Cook form will be sent out before the adventure begins, which must be filled out and returned before the beginning of the game. Preferably at least an hour before the game starts, so I have time to adjust the adventure if needed. The adventure is quite long and we'll be taking things at a fair pace, so we'll schedule in a 10 minute break in the middle. Of course, anyone who needs to take a break from the game for any reason is free to do so. I understand that despite all precautions, something may occur in the game that requires you to leave it, and if that does happen I am happy to grant a full refund. X, N an O cards will be handled via instant messaging. We will also have a debriefing at the end of the game to talk about what happened, highlights, and also what didn't work so well.

How will character creation work
We will be using pre generated characters for this adventure. Runequest has a large number of pre generated characters freely available, and I will send you a select subset of these before the game starts to choose from. Please do not bring a character outside of the group that I send you, as these characters have been specifically chosen to work quite well with the adventure. Please have a look over the character sheets before the game and get a rough idea of who you would like to play. We will try to satisfy everyone's first choice of character, but in cases of overlap some players may need to play their second or third choice.
