Who Wants to Live Forever?

Who Wants to Live Forever?

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Death has vanished. No one can die. They can get sick, they can grow old, they can suffer unfathomably traumatic wounds, but death does not come to finish the job. The change came suddenly; completely without warning. Your grandmother, who has been suffering from a long illness, cannot take her final breath. The mournful bays of the deer you hunt to feed and clothe your family never cease no matter how many arrows you put through their body. The mortal enemy you despise endures on the chessboard despite your best efforts to destroy them. You cannot sit idly by while all this happens, whatever *this* looks like for you. You must go get Death back from whatever ill fate has befallen it and Bring. It. Back. The campaign will start at 3rd Level and progress to 20th Level. You will explore the world and delve into its secrets in hopes of discovering the fate of Death. In the process, you’ll be confronted by all of the implications that the loss of Death has, including questions of morality, socio-economic issues, the effects on the natural world, and how it affects the multiverse.

How to prepare

A mic is required, as well as a Discord and Roll20 account. Cameras are optional. Characters can be created during Session 0 or ahead of time. There are channels on the Discord server devoted to designing your character stats, as well as formulating the party dynamic at the start of the story.

What I provide

I offer maps and tokens set in Roll20 (you can provide your own art for me to make a token out of, or I can find something for you). I also share my entire D&D Beyond library for players making their characters through that avenue. You will also have access to my Discord server, with special access to private channels devoted to this game table. The Player Primer, available through the Discord server, gives all the introductory information you need about the game world and character creation. I utilize ambient sound and music to set the mood, with total control on your end as to the presence, absence, and volume of said ambience. I am a Rule of Cool GM, though I do so through compromise. Generally speaking, if you want to try something that is not intended to work in a certain way, I will allow you to try it, but there may be additional requirements or a higher difficulty on your dice roll to make it happen. I also place heavy emphasis on storytelling (and refer to myself as a Storyteller rather than a Dungeon Master, although I will answer to both). If something unconventional serves to tell a good story or add to the game in a positive or interesting way, I am more likely to allow an attempt at it.

Gameplay details

The content warnings largely reflect the implications of what would occur if no one was able to die. These actions are rarely, if ever, glorified in the story. Other tags, such as the Devils/Demons/Fiends tag, reflect the existence of such beings in Dungeons and Dragons settings. If any of these content warnings is worrisome, please feel free to contact me to discuss it further. Some of these items can be presented in vague fashion, or else not included in the campaign at all. I will be forthcoming if a particular item from the Content Warning list is so essential to the story that it cannot be removed. If this will cause discomfort or make you feel unsafe, I will discuss options to accommodate if possible.

How will character creation work

Players begin at Level 3. Use Standard Array or Point Buy to form your Ability Scores. Start with Standard Starting Equipment plus 5 potions of healing. No other magic items are available at character creation unless your class can create them. Even then, these items come with the limitations detailed by your class features. The campaign begins in the time just *before* Death disappears, so your character will be unaware that it is about to happen. Feel free to build a pre-existing motivation that will trigger *when* Death disappears, however. Perhaps an elderly relative is ill, or you are an assassin who suddenly finds themselves "out of business", or you are a Druid or Ranger who quickly becomes concerned about the balance of Nature. Players will also be asked a few character development questions at character creation. These are posted in the Discord Server.
