About the adventure

Across the realms, a shadow looms: the Death Curse. Divine magic falters, and resurrection spells fail. Those who cheated death now wither, their vitality drained by an unseen force. Clerics despair, monarchs grieve, and families mourn as fear spreads like wildfire. Whispers point to Chult, a jungle-shrouded land of ancient ruins and prowling beasts. At its heart lies the rumored source of the curse—a sinister artifact called the Soulmonger, said to consume the very essence of the dead. The world teeters on the brink of chaos, and with each passing day, the curse claims more lives. The question remains: who will rise to stop it? A Call to Heroes Adventurers, scholars, and opportunists flock to Port Nyanzaru, the gateway to Chult. Some seek to end the curse out of duty, others for fame or fortune, and still more for reasons shrouded in shadow. You are among them, answering the call of Syndra Silvane, a retired adventurer stricken by the curse. Once a powerful wizard and merchant, Syndra now fades with each passing day. Armed with fragments of maps and whispered rumors, she implores you to find the Soulmonger and destroy it. The stakes are clear: with every delay, the curse spreads, dragging the world closer to ruin. Chult’s mysteries and dangers await those brave—or desperate—enough to answer the call. The Land of Chult Port Nyanzaru, the peninsula’s only city, is a vibrant hub of painted dinosaurs, bustling trade, and intrigue. Beyond its streets lies a dense jungle: a verdant maze teeming with life and death. Rivers twist through shadows, hiding treasures and predators alike. Every step is fraught with danger, and the jungle itself seems eager to consume those who dare to explore it. The Race Against Time The Death Curse spares no one. Every passing day weakens the afflicted and draws the world closer to collapse. To stop it, you must brave Chult’s unforgiving wilderness, solve ancient puzzles, and outwit deadly traps. Rival forces and the land itself will challenge you at every turn, but the Soulmonger must be destroyed. Your journey will test your strength, cunning, and resolve. Towering undead, ancient guardians, and unyielding dangers await. Success means salvation; failure means doom for all. What Lies Ahead This is a journey of endurance, courage, and discovery. Every step into Chult brings challenges and choices with lasting consequences. Roleplay Opportunities: Forge alliances, navigate political intrigue, and uncover Chult’s ancient secrets. Deadly Combat: Battle undead hordes, jungle predators, and ancient guardians. Every encounter will test your skills. Exploration and Discovery: Unearth lost temples, decipher mysteries, and uncover treasures long forgotten. The jungle calls. The Soulmonger waits. The fate of the world hangs in the balance.

How to prepare

Player Setup Requirements To ensure a smooth and engaging experience, players should prepare the following: Required Accounts: D&D Beyond: For character creation and management. Roll20: The platform where we’ll run the adventure. Discord: For voice communication and session coordination. All of these platforms are free to use and essential for participation. Recommended Add-On: Beyond20: This browser extension allows you to roll dice directly from your D&D Beyond character sheet into Roll20. While not required, it’s a great tool to streamline gameplay. Microphones and Webcams: Microphones are mandatory to ensure clear communication. Webcams are optional but encouraged for those comfortable using them, as they add a layer of connection and engagement to the game. However, I completely understand and respect that some players may prefer not to use them. If you have any questions or need assistance setting up these tools, feel free to reach out before the game begins. I’m here to help make this process as easy as possible so we can jump into the adventure without any hiccups!

How will character creation work

Character Creation Guidelines Welcome to Tomb of Annihilation! Creating your character is an exciting first step in bringing this adventure to life. Below are the key details and expectations for character creation: Resources: Character creation will draw from all official Dungeons & Dragons 5e materials, within reason. If you have questions about specific options, feel free to ask during Session 0. Session 0: I encourage players to come to Session 0 with at least a rough idea of their character concept. Together, we’ll flesh out the details and weave your character into the world of Chult. Starting Level: Characters will begin at Level 1, ready to grow and develop as the adventure unfolds. Factions: Characters may have ties to one of the following factions: Harpers Order of the Gauntlet Emerald Enclave Lords’ Alliance Zhentarim Backstory: To enrich the narrative, each character’s backstory should include at least three people of significance—whether family, a lover, a rival, or an enemy. These connections will help anchor your character in the world and create opportunities for meaningful roleplay. For New Players: If you’re new to Dungeons & Dragons, don’t worry! Session 0 is the perfect time to collaborate on your character. Just bring a general idea of what excites you—whether it’s being a brave fighter, a clever rogue, or a mystical spellcaster—and we’ll build from there. I’m here to help make this a creative and enjoyable experience, so don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or ideas. Let’s create a party of characters you’ll love to play!
