About the adventure

Dreams, artifice, static. Brindlewood Bay shudders to life with the slowness of a CRT monitor. Trees sway in perfect, unsettling synchronization, and life continues on in predictable patterns... The sheriff huffs over his morning coffee. The college kids peel down gravel trails in hand-me-down vehicles. Families repeat the same arguments over perfectly poised dining room sets. The widowed meet over mystery novels to stave off loneliness. A coastal town most industry outside of blue-collar tourism has all but forgotten, Brindlewood Bay has been cast as a sleepy getaway where the median age gets a senior discount. It works hard at being just forgettable enough that you won't notice anything.... underneath the veneer. It's a promise masking a rot, a history curated by those who wish they can forget, a slow, beachside stroll into mania. As Seen on TV: A Brindlewood Bay Campaign is my third campaign in the system, and will have touchstones reminiscent of The Twilight Zone, Celebrity Culture, Wanda-Vision, and themes of nostalgia, perfectionism, production, glitches, and technological horror. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Brindlewood Bay is a tabletop roleplaying game that combines Murder, She Wrote with H.P. Lovecraft. In it, you play a group of elderly women, members of the local Murder Mavens Mystery Book Club, who help the authorities solve murder cases in a picturesque New England Town. Over the course of their investigations, they become aware of a dark occult conspiracy that connects the cases, and will eventually have to face that conspiracy in order to save their community. All campaigns have the requirement of an onboarding discussion prior to play and adherence to all safety tools throughout play.

Recruiting notes

If you love Murder She Wrote or think the Golden Girls deserved a mystery-solving spin-off, this campaign is for you. No previous experience with the game system is required! Due to the close-knit nature of characters and roleplay interaction this game tends to have, everyone playing will have an onboarding chat with me prior to the campaign starting/joining the game to ensure the game and group are a good fit. To allow for this, a player who joins with less than 24 hours prior to game time will be invited to spectate the session for free (if desired) and start officially participating with the next session after the onboarding discussion, safety form, and character creation.

How to prepare

Players will need a stable internet connection, a webcam, a mic, access to discord and google (both you can make for free!) They will need to review materials prior to our session but will not need to make a character.

What I provide

I'll provide all the resources necessary to create a character and play the game, all via PDF and hosted online in a ttrpg-centric discord! I'll utilize ambient music when appropriate, a shared google sheet for our information - and we'll play with video on discord! I love to try character voices and give varied dynamics with all NPCs. This is a combat light, roleplay heavy Powered By the Apocalypse game in which the players write the narrative of our collaborative story alongside me as the keeper! Players can expect a goofy tone with serious moments from time to time, a light sprinkling of cosmic horror, and light-hearted antics alongside a cozy and creepy vibe!

Gameplay details

The game involves murder, suspected murder, death - but most actual deaths take place off-screen. Investigation of these murders or events may result in descriptions of events, biases, motives, accidents, injuries, alcohol, abuse, jealousy, classism, betrayal, religion, and/or cults. Your character may experience some violence as part of their investigation but has the option to be more or less careful about putting themselves in danger and to state/share any lines or veils around this prior to any roleplay. We will fill out a lines and veils sheet at the top of play and go over all safety tools for our digital game. Safety Tools: Lines & Veils, X-Card, CATS will all be in effect.

How will character creation work

Players will be invited to a discord server where the game will be hosted and given all the materials to create a character. Players will have the opportunity to make their book-club members and discuss specific choices during a dedicated session 0. Characters will be created on our shared google sheet - inspiration points are Murder She Wrote, Golden Girls, and any elder lady you know!
