Rise of the Rune Lords Pathfinder for Savage Worlds
Savage Worlds | Campaign
About the adventure
"Scarred by the depravity of ancient wizards and reclaimed by a wilderness of beasts and savages, only in the past few hundred years have the steps of civilized men again trod the wondrous and mysterious lands of Varisia. Welcome to Varisia, the home of Pathfinder’s Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path. It’s in these ancient and treacherous lands that your character will take up arms against the return of a centuries-old evil. Yet, before you dive headlong into your adventures, there are things you must know. This guide seeks to prepare you for your quest, supplying you with information about Varisia: an introduction to the varied people that call the land home, a primer to the unique skills and tools you’re likely to encounter, and that extra edge that just might mean the difference between heroic triumph and an ignominious end." — Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide
Experience Rise of the Runelords in a completely different way. The SWADE-meets-Pathfinder fusion keeps all the cool old school feel of 3e (and before) D&D with the infinitely flexible nature of Savage Worlds, which lets us have quick-to-resolve mechanics for what happens when a player decides they need to throw sand in the gorgon's eye. I'm super excited to see how this system accelerates shenanigans-based fantasy adventure. 🌱—Beginner friendly: you don't need to know any of the rules to this game to show up and have a blast role playing on your very first night. You will learn to play the very best way, by playing and having fun. 🧑🤝🧑—Inclusive: this game is fun for all people regardless of gender, ethnicity, or orientation. 🤺—Hijinks and high adventure: this campaign has some spooky mysteries and some terrifying bad guys, but it is first and foremost a high-thrill ride in the best tradition of fantasy adventure. 🕵️—Lots of Mystery: if you like mystery and feel there isn't enough thinking in most RPGs, you'll be happily surprised by this game. 📚—Lore Teacher: This adventure path teaches players about the Lore of the Pathfinder world in a fun and immersive way. Great for new players to the world and for veterans who love lore-driven easter eggs.

How to prepare
You are free to come in without any homework and learn as you play, it’s really easy enough that you don’t need to read a single page. You will need either a PC or Mac-compatible PC with broadband internet access and electricity to play in this game; a mouse with left and right buttons, as well as a third button and mouse wheel is optimal for online use of Foundry VTT. You will need a Discord account to access the game chat. The Foundry VTT runs on a modern web browser, so there is nothing to install if you have a browser on your computer. If you have an older computer, you might consider using the Foundry Lightweight Client, which is a free lightweight web browser that gives you the most bang for your machine's capabilities. You can get it for free here: https://flc.ruleplaying.com/ If you intend to speak in the voice channel on Discord, you should have a headset with a microphone. *You will be required to set up a push-to-talk button*; you are, however, free to communicate to the group using text only in Discord, but you will then need speakers to hear their chat and the game sounds. Special text-only sessions are available for the deaf and hard of hearing. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you'd like to schedule one. Bringing a friend or two would help ensure we don't need to recruit additional players. While text-only is actually my preferred method of play, it does seem difficult to organize those games. Instructions for setting up the push-to-talk button and installing all the needed software are available on my Discord channel (#getting-started), to which you will be supplied a link when you join.
What I provide
I provide the ruleset and scenario and my license for the virtual table top allows you to play through a modern browser. We will be using Syrinscape sounds, which will come through your browser window automatically.
Gameplay details
This game is fantasy-adventure with a lot of hijinks, mystery, and hair-raising situations. Most of the action would be typical for a movie in the genre with a PG-13 rating, but it can occasionally get a little emotionally intense at times. Please consult the content warnings for this campaign and ensure that none of those topics are red lines for you. On the off chance that a player believes things have gone to far, we use a Yellow Card—Red Card system that any player can utilize if the scene is getting too intense; the use of these cards is done through clicking on an icon on the Foundry VTT screen, it is anonymous which player presented the card, but I will take immediate action when one is presented. A Yellow Card lets us fade-to-black and continue with the story on the other side of the disturbing content; a Red Card stops the game and invokes a 15-minute break. After the break, we can discuss what was going wrong and how we can best fix it for the group.

How will character creation work
Players can either select a pre-generated character at the time they sign-in, or they may build a character using Pathbuilder for Savage Worlds and the setting guidelines provided during session zero. Players joining after session zero should get with the GM more than 48 hours before the next session to get guidance on creating their character if they do not want to play a per-generated PC.
