About the adventure

You're not sure what, but something about today is...off. The wind has shifted suddenly, the livestock is a bit more skittish than normal, and the air hangs dead, like it's waiting, holding its breath. Rumor around the village talks of a growing darkness across the sea. For centuries your people have dared not even venture through the mountains, much less to the coast. But today, you can swear that something dark is already here...watching. All players welcome, veterans and TTRPG newcomers alike! Set primarily in the country of the Misty Vale, Dragonbane is a medium-magic, high fantasy setting, similar to Dungeons & Dragons and lightly inspired by Norse Mythology. Dragonbane operates on a D20 (twenty sided die) Roll-Under system, which means low numbers on a D20 are great, and high numbers on a D20 are less great! This setting is great for puzzles, tactical combat, role-playing, and travel through all sorts of environments. That being said, I prefer to remain flexible with my rules. If a rule isn't working for the table, then let's change it!

Recruiting notes

Before the rise of the Dragon Empire, darkness clouded the sky and chaos reigned supreme. As the group continues to search for the missing pieces of a broken statuette, they find themselves in the depths of a long abandoned dwarven mine. The floor is collapsing from under their feet, passages are flooding with ice cold water, and did something just move below the surface?

How to prepare

A Mic is necessary but a webcam isn't! I'll likely be on camera, but don't feel pressured to be as well if that's not your thing! The only program you'll need access to is Discord, other than that, I just recommend a solid internet connection. All other preparation for the game/system will happen in the free Session 0.

What I provide

I will be providing a link to FoundryVTT where I host a server. This will include maps, tokens, and digital content. I'll also send you an invite to a private Discord Server where we will use voice and text chat, and video if you'd like! All you need is an internet capable device (desktop/laptop preferred, but a tablet will work as well, smart phones are more difficult) and a discord account! I like to use ambient music and the occasional character voice, and include moderately tactical combat. I try to stick to the rules as much as I can, but at the end of the day, the Rule of Cool takes preference. If there's a rule in the game that allows for what you're trying to accomplish, let's try sticking to that until it breaks, but if not, let's do whatever feels fun.

Gameplay details

Session 0 - The first session will mainly go over basic rules, character sheets (character creation if you'd like, but pre-generated characters will be available as well), and general housekeeping things before beginning the campaign! Luxton Technique - Session 0 will include a brief discussion of triggers and topic/subject matter that are off limits. This is a time for players to bring up any content that they'd like to avoid, no questions asked. If there's a potential trigger that might be too prevalent within the story, this will be the time to discuss! X - I like to handle X cards two different ways; digital and physical. Players are welcome to choose between the two whichever works best for them. Have a note card or piece of paper with an X drawn on it, then whenever you need, just hold that up to your camera. Alternatively, I like to keep an eye on the chat so if a physical card isn't your thing, or you prefer to stay off camera, just type "X" into the chat, and we can pause gameplay to work through the situation. Open Door and Breaks - At any point during the game, please feel free to momentarily step away from the game to de-stress, grab a drink/snack, use the restroom, or just stretch! On that same note, if something has come up in the game that might not be X worthy, but still feels like it warrants discussion, we can pause gameplay at any point to talk. Debriefing and Stars And Wishes - At the end of each session I like to hold a few minutes to discuss what went well and what could be better! Stars and Wishes are great for this, and debriefing fills in the gaps that Stars and Wishes might not cover. If you'd like, I can also create an anonymous survey to fill out to leave feedback about sessions going forward! The game is only good if we are ALL having fun, so if even one person feels like they want to talk about something, let's take care of it as soon as possible.

How will character creation work

Character Selection/Creation will happen in Session 0. Stats are rolled similar to DnD (roll 4 D6s and drop the lowest) but Dragonbane rules are a little different, so we will handle that in Session 0. All character info will come from the Dragonbane Core set (at least to begin with, options may open up after the first few sessions) which I own and have uploaded a digital version of within Foundry, so that will be accessible to everyone within the VTT (Virtual TableTop).
