About the adventure

Hello, mighty adventurers! This is a 20th level one shot for you to test out your craziest ideas for wild characters. You will be playing as a group of heroes and champions throughout the different ages of Saima, a world of mortals closely mirrored by a world of spirits held back by the Wall Between Worlds. An ancient evil has managed to rise and capture one of Saima's Titans, the most powerful creatures in the mortal realm, capable of destruction even beyond that of many Great Spirits. You have been tasked with traveling to the beginning of the possessed Titan's conquest of the world to reverse the destruction it has caused and save the people of the world it is endangering. This will be a "pedal to the metal" highly cinematic and combat-focused adventure, so come prepared with all of your brain ready to handle some math. I do believe that narrative stakes are incredibly important, and will still have some opportunities for creative problem solving and lovable NPCs, but as I'm sure you know if you've played high level DnD, fights are looooong, so that's where most of our 3-4 hours will be going.

How to prepare

Make sure you have a working mic and access to both discord and dndbeyond accounts, just so we're all ready to get into it after you sign up. Come to the session prepared please, 20th level is hard enough to remember without trying to learn a new character you haven't looked at much before showing up, and there are so many intricacies in each of your characters that I won't be able to know most of your questions off the top of my head (and looking things up will bog things down extra).

What I provide

I have a huge library of books on dndbeyond that you will have access to for character creation, as well as a wide range of custom maps and immersive music to guide us through the session. For battles as massive in scale as the one in question, I tend to think that including a map as a visual reference while mostly playing in theater of the mind and not worrying too much about distances and positioning is more fun, but the map will still be there. I'm not exactly a professional voice actor, but I work hard to ensure that my NPCs have unique quirks, voices, and personalities to bring them and the world to life. I think that it's more important to have consistent rulings than it is to follow the rules as written perfectly. As long as dope, creative ideas feel rewarded while still having the rewards feel earned, I believe I'm doing my job right. However, given that it's a 20th level one shot and there are a million ways to break the game with a little too much flexibility on rules, just be reasonable and nice haha.

Gameplay details

Even in one shots, safety tools are incredibly important. The game is only fun if everyone is having fun, and the only way that happens is if everyone feels safe and comfortable. If you have any lines and veils, please please please message them to me before session starts so that I can ensure none of them come up during play. However, if anything gets forgotten then X, N, O cards are there to be messaged and pick up the slack to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. I also plan on having a break at some point during the session so people can hopefully relax at least a bit with intense, high level combat.

How will character creation work

We will be using dndbeyond for character creation so we can all roll dice in its system for shared rolls. I want you all to be sure I'm not fudging rolls, and even though I've never seen it before (because it's insanely lame) I know that some people do cheat and lie about their own rolls. 20th level characters, Standard Array or Point Buy for ability scores. 2014 or 2024 rules are fine as long as you stick to one of the two throughout your build, and keep it to official material. As a sign of your hero/champion's experiences, you can have one legendary item, one very rare item, and one rare item as long as you have a story for where you got each one. You're essentially the hero of a certain age of a planet, so go nuts on the creativity!
